3 RYLA Program Objectives
A Rotary program designed to help clubs and districts Develop Leadership Skills in their youth Demonstrate Rotary’s respect and concern for youth Encourage and Assist young people in responsible and effective voluntary leadership by providing them with a valuable training experience Foster continued and stronger leadership of youth by youth

4 RYLA 2017 Where: Juniata College, Huntingdon, PA
When: Sunday, June 18, Check-In 3:00 PM through Wednesday, June 21, 1:30 PM What: Experiences, Information, Fun, and Friends Who: High School Sophomores and Juniors

5 The Lessons Leadership Communication Teambuilding Confidence
and Self Esteem Service to the Community

6 The Experience Getting to Know You Challenging Activities
Community Goodwill Business Competition Teambuilding

7 The Fun Meeting New Friends Free Time Dancing the Night Away
And yes, Problem Solving

8 Can YOUR Club Get Involved?
Budget to send participants Appoint a club RYLA Chair Club Presidents, Share the initial information with the appointed RYLA Chair RYLA Chair, Review the participant criteria and set up interviews for your candidates Submit the required paperwork for your participant Follow-Up to ensure they completed their paperwork too Reserve a club date post-RYLA for participants to share their experience with the club

9 Does the Applicant Have What it Takes?
Does he or she display leadership qualities? Has he or she held or ever wanted to hold a leadership position in the school or community? Has he or she ever been involved with community service? Does he or she have a good academic record? Is he or she willing to embrace the philosophy of the workshop and be prepared to engage in the activities wholeheartedly? Does he or she just need that extra push to step up?

10 How do the Participants Get Started
Receive Permission from parent(s) or guardian(s) to attend the academy Complete the RYLA Application Return the Application to the local Rotary RYLA Chair Prepare for the interview by learning more about Rotary International – and Ace the interview Complete the RYLA Registration form and return it in a timely manner Attend a Meeting of the Sponsoring Club before RYLA

11 RYLA Timeline for Clubs
June: Budget $325 per student for your RYLA Scholarships February: Provide the District Committee with the name and contact info of your RYLA Chair March: Send check to cover the registration costs for your participants March: Promote RYLA in schools and community (materials available)

12 RYLA Timeline for Clubs
April: Confirm with your scholarship recipients that he or she has submitted the required paperwork for RYLA June: Confirm with your recipients that he or she is attending and that he or she has a ride to the conference. Help in any way you can! July: Invite your participants to a Rotary meeting to share his or her RYLA experience

13 District 7360 RYLA RYLA is a four day event that PROVIDES
high school sophomores and juniors OPPORTUNITIES to discuss leadership skills AND apply them by participating in activities, classes, and projects while making new FRIENDS and having the best time FOREVER!
