3 About Us St. Stephen Elementary School is a Leader in Me Lighthouse school that believes in the adage that all children can learn and achieve high levels of academic success. We believe that, through collegial and cooperative efforts within the school community, we will be able to educate the whole child and bring about sustained academic excellence for every child. Passion and commitment are the traits that are emphasized throughout school community and students know that excellence is expected. High expectations, active engagement, reflection, sharing, relevant learning and student accountability are the conditions set forth for students. Although we are not where we want to be, we are making gains overall in student achievement. We will continue to strive for excellence daily. To challenge and empower our students to be successful in a highly competitive world.

18 21st Century Leadership Academy
21st Century Afterschool: SSE Leadership Academy The SSE Leadership Academy is a 21st Century Afterschool Program. Students meet for afterschool Monday through Friday from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. Students receive enrichment opportunities, arts and crafts, and the opportunity to participate in several clubs such as the Gentleman’s Club, Wii Fit Club, and Jewelry making. Students also receive dinner. The Leadership Academy also meets for 3 weeks during the month of June. During this time students continue to receive instruction, and participate in field trips around the Lowcounty.

21 SSE Is a Lighthouse School
What is a Leader in Me Lighthouse School? World-wide there are only 135 Lighthouse Schools 14 of those are in South Carolina Lighthouse schools are designated as so because they completed the entire two-year training regimen for The Leader in Me, and went through an extensive on-site review by FranklinCovey (sic) to ensure the fidelity of implementation. St. Stephen Elementary was named a Lighthouse School in February 2014.
