He mentioned “…you are all here to learn.” Break into two teams: TEAM A 1. What does “learning” look like in your classroom? 2. How do you KNOW when your students are “learning”? 3. Does learning look the same for every student?

What are YOU going to do to ensure that HSCS doesn’t have all of “those” students standing on stage rather than succeeding? 6. How are you going to make a difference? **Rotate Groups: add additional ideas to the other team!**

5 HSCS Tour You will be guided on a tour of HSCS by your Mentor for the school year. This will help you become acclimated to HSCS life.

7 Classroom Procedures and routines
Uniforms Arrival/Dismissal Routines-Your ORGANIZATION impacts YOUR STUDENTS success!! Material Pick up Do Now/Focus Activity/ Bell Work? Expectation at the bell- what do you expect the rom to look like? Do what works for YOU! Bathroom, Hall Pass, and Water- 45 isn’t THAT long!!! Set the expectation early in the year and stay consistent Students will do ANYTHING to get out of the classroom- use your discretion whether or not they go! Be aware of school policy- Walls will announce any new expectations First 10-Last 10! No passes-NO EXCEPTION!!! Guidance and Social Workers will always give students a pass! Don’t fall for their lies! Transition Tips Students don’t care if you say, “I’ll wait for you!” They want to waste your time! Keep it moving! Teach ANY and EVERY Procedure-do not assume!!

8 Daily Task During your allotted classroom time this afternoon, begin the process of thinking about and creating procedures within your classroom. Be prepared to share out tomorrow morning.

12 Grading Suggestions 70/30 mandated split 70%- NYS Standards
30%- 21st Century Skills (Share example form) Gradebook Weight Breakdown 40% Summative- Tests 30% Formative- Quizzes, Projects, Homework, etc. 30% 21st Century Skills- Refer to Handout Note: Your gradebook is flexible as far as what assignments you place in each category. Also the point values assigned to each assignment is up to you as a teacher. Grading Example Marzano Method: Check PLUS (3) – Check (2.5) - Check MINUS (1) Values in gradebook: 3= 100% 2.5= 83% 1- 33% (must resubmit assignment)
