Sandringham School Coaching Programme

The 6 Principles of Coaching
The coachee is resourceful. The coach’s role is to work with and develop the coachee’s resourcefulness; it is not about giving advice. Coaching addresses the whole person – past, present and future. The coachee sets or owns the agenda. The relationship between the coach and coachee is one of mutual respect and equality. Coaching is about change. (Rogers, J. (2004) Coaching Skills: a handbook. New York: Open University Press)

What is in it for me? Research has shown many benefits of coaching, for example: Reduced work-related stress (Warman and Jackson, 2007), reduced feelings of isolation (Hobson and Sharp, 2005), and increased confidence (Moor et al., 2005). Increased opportunity to reflect on a new or specific role (Allan, 2007; Hobson and Sharp, 2005). Reflection and dialogue (Renshaw, 2008) enables teachers to ‘shift their ways of seeing’ and have enriched their thinking. Greater capacity to empower others through improved relationships (Allan, 2007) and improved personal communication skills (Hobson and Sharp, 2006).

What could I be coached in?
