3 You may find the most queries are in term 1 where students are waiting for their DSA funding.
Many students may not need a demonstration and may just want to know locations, as they are already using the software and may have their own copies. Advise students using voice recognition software that floors 3, 4, 5 are quiet study, therefore they may be heard by others when using the Accessible Study Rooms. The Disability Support Officer can provide demonstrations on software. Leaflets with further information about the software we have in the library are on order, and can be handed to students needing a brief overview.

4 JAWS Supports users who are blind or visually impaired.
A powerful accessibility solution that reads information on your screen using synthesis speech. JAWS provides commands that make it easier to use programs, edit documents and read Web pages. Locations- Assistive Tech Area, Accessible Study Room 114 and the Assistive Laptop.

5 ZoomText Supports visual impairment
An advanced screen magnification program that enlarges and enhances everything on the computer screen, making it easier to see and use. Windows also has its own magnifying tool. Further information: Location- Assistive Tech Area, Accessible Study Room 114 and Assistive Laptop

6 Dragon NaturallySpeaking
Plantronic head phones required. Voice activated software enabling you to control your computer with your voice. Excellent for creating essays, notes and s; you speak, the software types. Located in Accessible Study Rooms 114, 214, 309 and 405 and on the Assistive Laptop.

7 Kurzweil 1000 & Cicero 'Scan and read' software that makes text accessible to people who are visually impaired. Printed text documents are placed on the scanner and can then be translated into alternative formats. Both located in Assistive Technology Area Kurzweil also in Accessible Study Rooms 214, 309 & 505

8 Dolphin Easy Producer Easy Producer is supports customers with visual impairment, dyslexia and other SpLD’s, as well as readers wanting to create fully accessible versions of their documents. Converts standard Microsoft Word files into DAISY digital talking books (synchronized audio and text) that can be searched and navigated. Located in Assistive Technology Area

9 AudioNotetaker Visual and interactive form of note taking
Manages audio recordings enabling you to mark sections, remove unwanted information, find material and merge audio with text and other extracts. Located in Accessible Study Room 214

10 ClaroRead Supports users with literacy difficulties, Dyslexia and English as a second language. Floating tool bar with a wide range of visual tools including to colour, highlight, and focus on text as spoken by computer and much more! Improves written accuracy with an enhanced spell check, homophone check, thesaurus and speaking dictionary. Can read any on screen text out loud, in addition to scanned books and documents. Located in Accessible Study Room 214 and Assistive Laptop.

11 Mindjet MindManager Networked mind mapping software for all.

12 Mindjet MindManager Supports all students, DSA may recommend for students with Dyslexia. Can be downloaded via the IT services page on University owned and networked computers and also personal computers (subject to terms & conditions.) Easily downloaded via the ‘software center’ on student build computers.

14 Read&Write Gold Supports users with literacy difficulties, Dyslexia and English as a second language. Similar to ClaroRead Read&Write GOLD is an easy to use toolbar that "floats" on top of any open application. Assistance is available for the user as they are working. The software works discreetly with all mainstream Windows applications.

15 Read&Write Gold Various tools across four different toolbars.
The toolbar can be adjusted to customer preference. By pressing the purple Read&Write Gold logo, the toolbar will change to reveal more options. You can, in turn, switch between the above toolbars by pressing the logo.

16 Read&Write Gold Writing Features Toolbar Features include:
Enhanced spell check and homophone check (‘sounds like’) Dictionary and picture dictionary Word wizard- Thesaurus Screen masking

17 Read&Write Gold Research Features Toolbar Features include:
Voice notes- adding voice notes into MS word documents. Fact finder-allows the user to search the internet using document text across the set internet sites. Fact mapper- mind mapping.

18 Read&Write Gold Study Skills Toolbar Features include:
Study skills- highlight and collect sections of text across documents.. Vocabulary- create your own vocabulary lists with images, producing a personalised MS word document. Word cloud- create your own ‘word cloud’ from text or use pre-existing clouds. These list key words at the side of your document in a cloud format which can be personalised.

19 Read&Write Gold Reading Features Toolbar Features include:
Translator-translates into a language of your choice (online only.) Play- read text where cursor is placed. Screenshot reader- selects ‘box’ of text to be read. Speech maker- converts selected text into sound files.

20 The toolbars can be manipulated to users preference (see below.)
You can adjust the toolbar to display text, increase icon size and alter the style via the ‘General Options’ screen. This is found via the dropdown menu next to the Logo on the toolbar.

21 Read&Write Gold The ‘Quick Reference Card’ which can be accessed via the Read&Write Logo dropdown screen (see above) provides descriptions of all functions. QR cards are found within the Accessible Study Rooms. Direct link below: There is also the ‘All Video Tours’ link via the Read&Write Logo which is a very useful, providing brief video guidance. You can also find the individual Function video tours on the drop down menu for each feature.

23 Read&Write Gold Pre-installed on all Assistive Tech Areas, Accessible Study Rooms and designated area within PG Hub. The University holds a site licence for Read&Write Gold in which it can be downloaded onto any University- owned computer (subject to terms and conditions.) We are advertising this! Its important all front-line staff are confident to show students where to access and are familiar with the software.

24 Read&Write Gold- How to access it.
The quickest and easiest way to download is via the software center. Software center is found via the home page of student build computers only. Select ‘All Programs.’ Select ‘Software Center.’ Choose desired software.
