Class Selections 2016 Freshman

Pick Your Academy Engineering – must already be placed in Engineering
Business – must be enrolled in DIT or other business class Performing Arts – must be enrolled in art, music, or chorus Academic Scholar – must be enrolled in biomed, AVID, or other academically rigorous course (AP or honors) You may choose electives from other academies as well (for example, Theater, Business, Art, etc)

English – Graduation Req. - 4 credits
Most freshman will go into English 1 or English 1 Honors If currently taking English 1 (regular or honors) in 8th Grade: As and Bs English 2 Honors Cs or Below English 2

Global Studies (full year) World Religions (.5 credits) AP Human Geography College level Heavy weight on tests Out-of-class reading and preparation required

Band, Instrumental Ensemble, Instrumental Techniques, Jazz Ensemble, and more 2D Art, 3D Art (full year course required for higher level art classes) Chorus, Vocal Ensemble Academic Scholar Bio Med – 4 year program Freshman Year – Principles of Bio Med, must concurrently take Biology Honors level course work AVID 1 Resource and support for highly motivated students Study skills, note taking help, college preparation

NOT NEEDED FOR GRADUATION
Foreign Language NOT NEEDED FOR GRADUATION TWO YEARS REQUIRED FOR BRIGHT FUTURES AND UNIVERSITY ADMISSIONS. MORE YEARS ENCOURAGED If you have As and Bs in Levels 1 & 2 class…continue on. Level 3 and higher becomes honors level – they cover double the amount of work in the same amount of time. Must be ready to work!!! Spanish French Chinese German

District Mandated Courses
These intensive classes are required by the district. Placement in these courses will be determined over the summer according to middle school test scores. Intensive Reading (1 period, full year) Math classes will also be determined by EOC scores

Curriculum Guide can be found on ELHS website Must be enrolled in 7 classes Electives are not guaranteed, so please provide several alternatives in case your selections do not work with your schedule Teacher preference will not be honored
