Migration from England (1600s) - 90% of immigrants are English - indentured servants The Scots and Scotch-Irish (1700s) - Great Britain was formed - Scottish emigration rose The Germans (1700s) - William Penn recruits Germans - wages were high/land and food were cheap

Immigration brings change - accepted that a diverse society was a help to the economy - best guarantee for religious protection

Transatlantic Slave Trade (1700s) -slaves purchased from African merchants and chiefs in coastal kingdoms of West Africa -kidnapped/taken in wars -Europeans offered high prices for captives

Triangular Trade - Enslaved Africans came to Americas in a three-party voyage 1. slave traders sailed from Europe to Africa 2. Middle Passage- enslaved Africans shipped across the Atlantic to colonies 3. slave traders returned to their mother country
