26 A student teacher’s view…
Today I attended a Junior Cycle for Teachers on the delivery of the new Junior Cycle English curriculum. I was actually quietly confident in this course. I found that the Hibernia training had prepared me really well for this day. The emphasis for Hibernia has also been the learning experience for the student and assessment for learning. Many of the methodologies suggested today had already been covered by Hibernia’s modules. I was also interested that the planning section promoted the use of Learning Outcomes and assessment techniques applied in a constructivist way across English and the broader curriculum. This is exactly the approach that Hibernia has insisted that we adhere to in the planning of our lessons and Schemes of Work. The JCT course referred to many of the theorists we have been introduced to in Hibernia. It is very reassuring to know that as GSTs we are covering the most contemporary thinking in teaching. For me this certainly means that I can enter the profession confident that my own learning has been well directed. Sept 14 PME student
