9 CASE STUDIES…

10 Meanwhile Space Case Studies Meanwhile Space is
dedicated to making the most of unused spaces for the benefit of local communities. In Whitechapel, Meanwhile Space persuaded landlords to allow them to use an empty shop as an engagement space for three months. Case Local projects used the space by marketing directly from the shop. The space was kept as a blank canvas so people could project their own ideas. Projects included community engagement, workshops, art shows, fundraising, family days, theatre performances and a fair for local artists and retailers. Studies

11 Cycletastic Case Studies
Cycletastic is a voluntary community project managed and supported by local people who aim to broaden access to cycling. The Community Shop offers a drop-in repair facility and regular bike maintenance sessions. They encourage local residents to start cycling and become confident on the road. Case Cycletastic provides assistance to people of all ages and backgrounds, including those on low incomes and experiencing other varying hardships. Through effective engagement with local people the project has enjoyed support from Brent Council and the local police service. Studies

12 Getting in iTouch Case Studies
This project partners residents of care homes for the elderly with university students. Students show residents how to send s to their families, search the internet for information they might need, or listen to their favourite songs on iTunes and YouTube.  Case Social networking is used to connect to people in other homes world-wide. This project differs from other efforts to help older people online. It adds excitement, ease of use and fun through new technology. Studies

Submit your idea to MyKindaFuture for the chance to win an exclusive work experience placement with HSBC! So let’s get started! You will be led through 3 tasks, each of which relate to HSBC’s core values. Remember to tie your work in with these values as this will be part of the judging criteria!

14 TASK 1: HOW CAN I HELP? Think about your local area. Consider any problems that affect individuals or groups. Once you have identified a problem, you need to devise a solution! Do you want to create a scheme that will change people’s lives? Could you provide activities that will develop their skills? What opportunities could you provide? What project are you going to start up in order to help your community? VALUE: Connected to customers, communities and each other Building connections, being aware of external issues, collaborating across boundaries. Caring about individuals and their progress, showing respect, being supportive and responsive.

15 TASK 2: GATHERING SUPPORT
Which groups of people are most likely to support your community project? Will they be of a particular age, gender or from a certain area? How are you going to communicate with them in order to get their support? Give your project a name. Draw up a plan detailing how you will establish contact with your supporters, especially with an online community. VALUE: Open to different ideas and cultures Communicating openly, honestly and transparently, welcoming challenge, learning from mistakes. Listening, treating people fairly, being inclusive, valuing different perspectives.

16 TASK 3: TIME TO LAUNCH How will you launch your project, will you start with a big event? Will that involve fundraising? How many volunteers will you need to run this event? Where will it be? Who will you invite? Then it’s time to think about your project once it’s up and running. Draw up a list of events for one calendar month to demonstrate the range of work you will do and how your project works. VALUE: Dependable Standing firm for what is right, delivering on commitments, being resilient and trustworthy. Taking personal accountability, being decisive, using judgment and common sense, empowering others.
