4 Where is Rotary Growing/Decreasing Around the Globe 1.209 million 30 June 2014 As of 30 June, 2014 Rotary had million members world wide. This graphic serves as a reminder that we have mixed results for membership. Based on 10 year trends, you can see in this map how membership has changed. Membership in certain parts of the Rotary world has increased. In other parts of the Rotary world, membership has stopped growing and even some clubs are losing members entirely. 4 4 4

Now I want to introduce a process that fits in the Identification Step of Retention is Key. It is a process that will recruit new members in multiples. Membership is Everyone’s Job. This process has been used in our district since Lets look at some results. “Membership is Everyone’s Job”

13 Prerequisites to having a Membership Development – Be A Vibrant Club
Long Range Plan – Where you club should be in 3 – 5 years Set annual goal and get the buy in of the club Hold club assemblies regularly Communicate openly in you club Prepare members for future roles to maintain smooth transition of leadership Adapt your clubs bylaws to support the way your club works Develop strong relationships within your club Make all members are involved Coach new and current members in leading Create Committees that are practical for your club

Create positive club experience for all members Flexibility, Flexibility, Flexibility Have great meetings – have a structured meeting with agenda and speakers Regular get togethers in addition to club meetings Method to raise funds Have local and international service project Understand and learn about Rotary Have a leadership development plan Have a membership development plan Strong online presence – website, social media Strong public relations; newsletter, flyers, bulleting, press relations Strong business and administrative operations

Strive toward achieving the basics of a successful club In the last 5 years, new members averaged 6-7 people, people leaving 7-9, membership declined 15% Last year the Club determined that Membership Development was the top priority for the club In club has grown from 69 to 85 members 18 new member joined towards our goal of 25 2 members have departed – departed net 16 members Membership is discussed at every club meeting Every member has committed to be involved in membership development

Last year the Club Enhanced online presence Developed a strategic plan Implemented a leadership development plan Worked on getting people to better know one another Implemented flexibility in member participation Stopped measuring attendance but encouraged participation and involvement Revamped Membership Development Committee Enhance “new member” mentor program Sent 14 people to Rotary Leadership Institute Updated all policies and procedures Identified 300 member prospects

This year the Club Continue to work on basics of successful club Continue to identify member prospects Every member selected/assigned 3 prospects Members trained on how to ask and recruit, role play, elevator speech – participate in RLI. Membership discussed at every club meeting Club President – tenacious on membership New member orientation and assimilation including fireside chat, new member orientation, mentor program, red badge program, new member check list, RLI training, involvement Great service projects Regular Club assemblies Technology training

Next Year Continue to work on basics of a successful club Refine this year’s plan. What worked, what didn’t work, what could have been done better Leadership development – Leadership Commitment Focus on involvement of all members Better understanding of Rotary Involvement of members beyond the club Update strategic plan Try new stuff Reduced fee for younger members Free trail Satisfaction guaranteed Couples membership Online meetings
