6. World Language Acceleration
World Language Acceleration begins in 8th grade with the goal being that students continue with their language studies through 12th grade in order to earn 12 college language credits. Acceleration is determined upon the following criteria:
The student excelled in an introductory language course (when applicable)
The student is accelerated in math
The student achieved within the top 50 scores on the Star reading test
The student has an excellent work ethic, completes homework independently and demonstrates the ability to handle the rigor of an accelerated course as determined by teacher recommendation.

9. Holland Patent English and Social Studies Honors
The Holland Patent High School English and Social Studies honors courses begin in 9th grade. The goal of 9th grade honors is for students to continue preparing for coursework for the AP English, AP Social Studies, and MVCC English courses.
The following are the qualifying criteria for a student to enter Holland Patent High School accelerated into 9th Grade Honors English and/or Social Studies:
An average of 85 or better in all four quarters of 8th grade ELA/ Social Studies
The ability to independently express himself/herself through coherent writing (as determined by teacher reflection and recommendation).
Demonstrates the capacity to handle the pace and reading comprehension skills necessary to continue at this level of study (as determined by teacher reflection and recommendation).
