HB 5 Reporting requirement for CASE
All Texas school districts must evaluate the district’s performance and the performance of each campus in community and student engagement. Performance ratings of Exemplary, Recognized, Acceptable, or Unacceptable must be assigned for the district and for the campuses for overall performance and for the following categories: Fine Arts Wellness and physical education Community and parental involvement 21st century workforce development program 2nd language acquisition program Digital learning environment Dropout prevention strategies Gifted and talented program

Criteria used to evaluate and assign ratings
Edna ISD’s District Improvement Team discussed and made the following decisions concerning the CASE survey: The 3 highest scored programs would be submitted through PEIMS for the district and each campus. Unless the law changes, these ratings will be part of our accountability for 2018 for domain 5. The sliding scale for ratings would be as follows -

Fine Arts - Edna High School offers a variety of fine arts opportunities for students including an award winning choir, an award winning band, art (participated and received honors with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo), theatre arts, One Act Play (advanced to Regional competition), a competitive dance team, a competitive cheer team and Academic UIL competitions. Wellness & Physical Education - Edna High School addresses Wellness and Physical Education in the following ways: health and P.E. course offerings, athletic sports, SHAC (School Health Advisory Council) involvement participation from community at school sponsored events, student participation in school breakfast/lunch program, compliance with nutrition requirements, compliance with the Department of Agriculture audit reports, school nurses on each campus, at voluntary health and wellness programs such as Relay for Life, health screenings on campus, availability of school counselors, anti- bullying programs and lessons, blood drives, vaccination clinics, dental screenings, EKG screenings, Summer Feeding Program, Fitnessgram, child abuse awareness and training, pregnancy related services, employee wellness programs and blood borne pathogens training. Community and Parental Involvement - Edna High School involves the community and parents in the following ways: meet the teacher, open house, food drives, opportunities to highlight student success (banquets, awards programs, etc.) events honoring community members such as our Back to School Rally, Veterans Day, Emergency Operations Meetings with local EMS, Fire, Police, usability and information of campus website, compliance with required postings, active booster clubs, community service projects, student council community outreach programs, Personal Graduation Plans documented, freshman orientation, attendees at extracurricular events, student participation in Rotary and Lion’s Clubs, Golden Cowboy Cards for Senior Citizens, multi-language material, and use of social media to communicate with community and parents. 21st Century Workforce Development - Edna High School addresses the 21st Century Workforce Development in the following ways: Cohort sequence of CTE courses available, programs that lead to certifications or licenses (welding, CNA), college credit courses, college and career fairs, college and career days, college scholarship recipients, dual credit and Advanced Placement course offerings, credit recovery programs, work programs partnerships with community colleges, partnerships with local businesses, AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), flexible scheduling for college students and working student. 2nd Language Acquisition - Edna High School supports 2nd language acquisition in the following ways: participants in ELL/ESL programs, staff trained in ELL/ESL, LPAC documentation, students complete LOTE (Languages Other than English) courses, programs offered to ELL/ESL students, bilingual staff and multi-language material available to parents. Digital Learning Environment - Edna High School creates a digital learning environment in the following ways: significantly increased bandwidth and wireless capabilities within the district, teacher and school website information and usability, resources allocated to technology, staff development in technology, web-based instructional programs that students can access from home, on line courses, social media use in classrooms and schools, Tech CATE course offerings, Bring Your Own Device opportunities, policies embracing the use of technology, school leadership embracing the use of technology, and Advanced Technology Courses. Dropout Prevention - Edna High School addresses dropout prevention in the following ways: positive behavior systems, staff development geared toward Classroom management, character education courses, Reading programs (AR), anti-bullying programs, availability of school counselors, special needs identification, proper IEP implementation, student clubs offered, RTI programs (academic intervention), school climate/culture surveys, flexible scheduling, availability of on line courses, transportation support, partnerships with Mid-Coast Counseling Services, Gulf Bend Counseling Services, Lighthouse 2911 Counseling Services, and Alternative Education Placement option for graduation including early graduation. Gifted and Talented - Edna High School offers Gifted and Talented services through the following options: AP/Dual credit courses offered, Field Trip Opportunities through the AP classes, teacher staff development in GT, student leadership opportunities, and surveys used for GT parental feedback.
