21 CPIM Transformed for Today’s Busy Professional
Gabby: Cathy, can you give us a brief overview of the updated CPIM program.

22 CPIM Transformed to Today’s Busy Professionals
Get certified faster. Prepare for, and pass, only 2 exams – CPIM Part 1 and CPIM Part 2 – to earn the CPIM credential. The streamlined CPIM Version 6.0 format delivers the same CPIM knowledge and skills as Version 5.0 in a focused program to meet the training needs of today’s busy supply chain professionals. Streamlined and focused study materials condenses the time and effort it takes to prepare for the CPIM exam. The new CPIM Learning System is a proven APICS certification preparation method that combines reading materials with online practice tests and tools. Cathy: As you all know, the work place and work-life balance are very different today than they were when the CPIM exams were first released in the mid-70’s. Over the decades, the number of CPIM exams have gone from 4 to 5 to 6, but you only had to pass 5. At one point, there were 7 exams. In order to make the program more focused, we reduced the number of exams required from five to two, significantly reducing the amount of time it takes to earn the CPIM. The new exams will be called Part 1 & Part 2, and will cover the same body of knowledge that the current CPIM covers, but in a more streamlined and focused way. There will be new Learning Systems with extensive online quizzes, flashcards, videos and a practice exam. The Learning Systems can be used in either a classroom or as self-study.

23 What is the transformed APICS CPIM program?
The CPIM program is for all levels of supply chain professionals. Universally recognized entry-level supply chain training. Foundation for earning the CPIM. Comprehensive supply chain training for internal operations. Earn CPIM designation by passing both CPIM Part 1 and CPIM Part 2 exams. CPIM Part 1 CPIM Part 2 Module 1: Basics of Supply Chain Management Module 1: Strategic Management of Resources Module 2: Master Planning of Resources Module 3: Detailed Scheduling and Planning Module 4: Execution and Control of Operations Cathy: Many of you may be wondering what is covered in the new Learning Systems, and how you can earn your CPIM designation. CPIM Part 1 is for all supply chain professionals – there are no work or education experience requirements to get started. Part 1 consists of Module 1: Basics of Supply Chain Management (BSCM) CPIM Part 2 is comprehensive internal operations training for more experience professionals. Part 2 consists of the 4 modules listed:  Module 1: Strategic Management of Resources  Module 2: Master Planning of Resources  Module 3: Detailed Scheduling and Planning  Module 4: Execution and Control of Operations In order to earn your CPIM designation, you must pass both CPIM Part 1 and CPIM Part 2 exams.

24 An In-Depth Look at the APICS CPIM Modules
Basics of Supply Chain Management - The basic concepts in managing the complete flow of materials in a supply chain from suppliers to customers are covered in the Basics module. Supply chain concepts are introduced and basic terminology emphasized, as are relationships among activities in the supply chain. Knowledge of the material in this module is assumed as a prerequisite for the other APICS CPIM modules, which cover similar topics but in a much greater depth. Strategic Management of Resources - This module covers strategic planning and implementation and describes how market requirements dive the resources and processes of an organization. It helps you explore the relationship of existing and emerging processes and technologies to manufacturing strategy and supply chain-related functions. Master Planning of Resources - The topics of demand management, sales and operations planning, and master scheduling are examined in-depth in this module. Both supply and demand planning for mid- to long-term independent demand are discussed. Priority planning and capacity planning issues are also addressed. Detailed Scheduling and Planning - The subject matter of this module includes inventory management, material requirements planning, capacity requirements planning, procurement, and supplier relationships. Execution and Control of Operations - The principles, approaches, and techniques needed to schedule, control, measure, and evaluate the effectiveness of production operations are covered in this module. A broad range of production operations are reviewed including project, batch, line, continuous, and remanufacturing environments.
