3 What is a BS in Health Sciences?
This is an upper division baccalaureate degree focused on healthcare and designed to build upon the first two years of college. The purpose of the degree is to offer advancement opportunities to our students and community, to help meet the changing needs of our healthcare industries, and to strengthen the economy of the Central Florida region.

4 Who is this degree designed for?
Those with a 2 year degree in a health field such as RT, Pharmacy Tech, EMS, health Services and others who want to advance through a focus on clinical leadership /management. Those with a general AA degree who want to enter the healthcare industry. They can still meet their goals through the specialization in Healthcare Management & Professional Services. Those who aspire to be in the emerging field of Health Coaching. Those who want to go on to graduate education in the Healthcare Professions. Those who want to gain a specialty in Healthcare Simulation.

5 Who is eligible for admissions?
Those with an AA who want to enter the healthcare industry. Those with an A.S. degree in a healthcare area who want to advance their careers through a focus on clinical leadership/management. Those who have a current license in a healthcare field & wish to gain a baccalaureate degree most efficiently.

region: 5,024 Currently there are 378 job openings. In five years the projected number of job openings in health sciences areas is 1,904. With 378 openings currently there is an immediate employment gap of 353 jobs.

Healthcare Management and Professional Services Health Coaching Community Paramedicine Respiratory Therapy and Clinical Leadership Simulation in Healthcare Education Clinical Sciences Presenter: Michelle Birkeland This interdisciplinary program, designed in collaboration with more than 50 Central Florida healthcare industry partners, offers a wide range of opportunities for those who want to begin or advance a career in healthcare. The curriculum includes a central core of health science courses that allows students from various specializations the opportunity to work and collaborate.

15 BSHS Core Courses Degree Consists of a beginning core of health science courses, i.e. health care finance, health law, health IT systems, human resources, research, organization and management, etc. Curriculum core facilitates students from different health care disciplines collaborating as an interdisciplinary team. Provides a career pathway for those who wish to enter the business or management side of healthcare such as: Pharmacy Managers Medical & Health Services Manager Healthcare Administrator Health Insurance Professionals Nursing Home Administrator Rehabilitation Managers Clinical Managers Health Case Managers Medical Equipment & Pharmaceutical Sales Presenter: Dr. Angela Kersenbrock

17 Health Coaching Specialization in Health Coaching, was developed in response to the emerging demand for wellness professionals. Health coaches are part of a prevention-based model to promote wellness. The curriculum is a 3 legged approach with fitness, nutrition, and Students earn credentials in Personal Training as well as Strength and Conditioning.

18 Community Paramedicine
New and emerging field Community paramedics are responsible for evaluating and assessing high- risk patients in their homes—those that are most likely to be frequent users of the emergency department—to help them manage their chronic diseases, adhere to medication plans, enroll in insurance coverage or access social services. The goals of the community paramedic are to: improve individual and community health, reduce unnecessary hospitalizations and emergency department visits, and reduce healthcare costs. Seminole County alone paid more than $60 million in re-hospitalization fines last year.

19 Respiratory Therapy & Clinical Leadership
This baccalaureate specialization is an add on to the AS in Respiratory Therapy/Care Focus is on clinical leadership and advanced clinical skills

20 Simulation in Healthcare
A growing field in healthcare education. Most colleges and hospitals now have Simulation Labs. Healthcare simulation educators use standardized patients, mannequin-based simulations and computer-based simulations to teach and assess clinical professional skills. Graduates of this specialization have opportunities to work in hospitals, government and military agencies, universities and colleges, and rehabilitation agencies.

21 Clinical Sciences Specialization
Provides a pathway for those who wish to enroll in a pre-professional healthcare program with the intent of going into a health career such as: Pharmacist Chiropractor Dentist Physical Therapist Occupational Therapist Medical Doctor Doctor of Osteopathy Athletic Trainer Registered Dietician

22 Online AS to BSHS Designed for out of state and/or the totally online student with either an AS in a healthcare field or a certification / license in healthcare.
