Extra challenge: What is the value or importance of stewardship? Create an acronym for STEWARDSHIP using words that are linked

8 What teaching is this linked to?
E.G BUDDHISM CONDEMNS ABUSE OF PLANET DUE TO AHIMSA TEACHING E.G. Believe in rebirth and karma? Buddhists say treat the earth with kindness Buddhist views: What teaching is this linked to? They believe that we should never do evil and this includes harming the planet. (Ahimsa, Eightfold path = right action, metta = loving kindness) We may use it but not exploit it Activity 2: Summarise the Buddhist views in a newspaper headline

9 To sum up… Christians – a duty to care as we are stewards. In Genesis it says God made the heavens and the earth and all life. Buddhists – the world is part of the cycle of decay death and rebirth. We should show care and love to all living things including planet earth (Ahimsa). Future lives and generations need planet earth. Religious leaders – Dalai Lama in Buddhism, The Pope, Priests, Vicars in Christianity.

10 GCSE question… ‘Religious leaders should do more to save the earth’. Do you agree? Give reasons for your answer, showing that you have thought about more then one point of view. Refer to religious arguments in your answer. (6 marks) PEE Religious teachings

11 If time…Your task in groups:
Split your paper into four Make a list of what you believe makes a good steward of the earth e.g. someone who recycles, someone who saves electricity. Give at least 10 examples. Create a list of criteria/a quiz to judge whether or not we are all good stewards. Ask some people to answer in the class. Can you suggest a way to encourage us to become better stewards? Could you design or invent something?
