First plans for a public music library in Helsinki date back to 1955
The first music library in Finland was opened in Tampere 1958 Helsinki followed in 1971 In 2005 there were 9 music departments, but all of the City Library’s units offered a selection of music materials.

At the highest point CD circulation was 9 loans/year (Library 10, 2006)
Current circulation: music CD 6.3, sheet music 6.5 (Library 10, 2015)

The Route to Library 10 In 2005 the pioneering IT oriented Cable Book Library ( ) and Pasila Music Station ( ) merged into a new centrally located media and music driven unit called Library 10

Save Your Memories at the Vinyl Bar
At the Vinyl Bar you can transfer your own LP records and cassette tapes to digital format. The drawers at the Vinyl Bar contain 1,500 albums that can be borrowed, as well as having the Love Records catalogue available for listening. Also used for DJ events

Instruments available for loan: - Electric and acoustic guitars, electric bass, keyboards for studio use - Ukuleles, Kantele (Finnish zither) for home loan

Now you can get those compositions of yours into good enough shape to be published! With the help of our studio guides you can learn how to use our studio equipment and software. They can also give you tips on recording, mixing and editing. The library also has an electric piano and other instruments you can use.

The Library as a Facilitator

Oodi – 2nd Floor The second floor is for hands-on activities. It is a place for working, creating, interacting and learning-by-doing. Here you will find studios, gaming rooms, a makerspace, a kitchen, and areas for workshops, meetings, and other interactive exchanges.
