Works across business, universities and government We fund and connect Innovative companies Investing c£500m per year in Industrial R&D including (amongst others): c£70m in Transport Moving up the Technology Readiness scale, to TRL4-6, and into industry lead research and development, Innovate UK picks up on the good work from the EPSRC Innovate UK is tasked to accelerate economic growth by stimulating and supporting business-led innovation, from concept to commercialisation. Innovate UK funds, supports and connects innovative businesses to accelerate sustainable economic growth. Innovate UK has multiple tools and programmes to accomplish this, including a dedicated Knowledge Transfer Network to build and support communities and collaboration. Innovate UK invests c£500m, 91 Billion Yen, in industrial research and development every year, including £70m, 14 Billion Yen, in transport

5 £80m Automotive Grants in 2015
Spearheading Future Electric Vehicle Battery Production is a £10m competition designed to develop production capability in battery pack assembly Integrated Delivery Programme 12 is a £20m competition intended to support feasibility studies as well as collaborative R&D projects to lower CO2 and other emissions Developing Advanced Lightweight Vehicles is a £20m competition intended to support projects with potential to appreciably reduce the weight of vehicles, also in order to reduce CO2 emissions Connected and autonomous vehicles is a £20m competition in collaborative R&D projects and feasibility studies to stimulate developments in autonomous vehicles and connected transport systems Open to applications: Enhancing the end to end journey is a £10m competition for collaborative R&D projects to catalyse advances in the End to End journey experience for people and freight. 6 Low Carbon Truck Demonstration Trial
Trial aims Co-funded (£11.5 million government contribution) Cenex-Atkins study team Facilitate low carbon truck learning Facilitate product development Generate a body of evidence Initiate a publically accessible UK gas-refuelling infrastructure

7 Activity and Results so Far
Submitted data shows 309 trial trucks reported data 60 million km travelled (currently over 3 million km per month) 11 million litres of diesel consumed 4,250 tonnes of LNG (6% bio content) 1850 tonnes of CNG (6% bio content) 380 tonnes of UCO (100% bio content) Over 2000 tonnes of direct carbon dioxide emissions avoided Activity to Date 341 low carbon trucks deployed (92% of total) 18 low carbon trailers deployed (100% of total) 11 refuelling stations deployed (42% of total)

8 How the Funding Competitions Work
Call for proposals put out by Innovate UK (following consultation with steering group) Project proposals submitted by Industry. May include academic partners Proposals scored by independent assessors Projects ranked and the top ranking projects awarded funding Projects run the partners as per their proposals

Growth Accelerator - SME mentoring and coaching Services including up to £2,000 match funding for senior managers to hone their leadership and management skills Smart £25,000 to £250,000 to run an R&D project (up to 60% of costs) to develop a new product, process or service Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) Up to £80,000 to cover 67% of the cost of a graduate working in your company on a specific innovation project Innovation Vouchers Up to £5,000 to pay for an external expert to help your business grow. Use this expert to develop a new product, process or service, or how to manage and use intellectual property

11 Niche Vehicle Network An independent association of over 400 niche vehicle manufacturers, specialist technology and supply chain companies Connect with niche OEMs and suppliers Funding through CR&D competitions like Innovate UK but more agile projects (quicker and lower cost) Supported by Innovate UK and OLEV
