Abraham’s trust in God

Abraham Obeys God’s Call (Gen. 12:1-9)
Abraham built an altar for the sacrifice and then bound Isaac in readiness for the sacrifice. God intervened just before Abraham cut Isaac with the knife. An angel of the Lord called him and said, “do not lay your hand on the lad or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me”. As Abraham lifted up his eyes he saw a ram caught in the thicket by its horn. He took it and offered it to God in place of Isaac. He called the place “the Lord will provide”.

. God was so pleased with Abraham’s obedience that He said to him through the angel, “by myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this, and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will indeed bless you, and I will multiply your descendants as stars in heaven and as the sand on the sea shore. And your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies, and by your descendants shall all the nations of the earth bless themselves, because you have obeyed my voice”.

CALL TO FREEDOM Freedom is the liberty to pursue the good of our life. Man was created to be free and seek happiness according to the plan of God. Anything that goes against this plan goes against the freedom of man. Inherent in this freedom are the rights to life, religion, self determination, economic well being, free speech, association, etc.
5
Types of Freedom Based on the above we have many types of freedom, namely; Political Freedom:- this is the freedom of a people to govern themselves without interference from others. Religious Freedom:- this is the right to worship God as one knows best without let or hindrance.
6
. Economic Freedom:- This is the freedom to pursue programs that will ensure the provision of a good quality of life either as a family or nation. Social Freedom:- this is the freedom from ignorance and superstition through good education. It also includes liberation from disease and unhealthy environment
7
. Freedom of Association:- The liberty to join with other people to pursue political, social, religious or economic objectives Freedom of Speech:- this is the liberty to air one’s opinion on matters of public interest without persecution. All these types of freedom put together constitute our Human Rights.

THE BIRTH OF MOSES The people of Israel went to Egypt during the time of Joseph, the son of Jacob, Jacob, the son of Isaac, Isaac the son of Abraham, of Sarah. They enjoyed a good lease of life because Joseph saved the people of Egypt from famine and was favoured by Pharaoh (the King). When a new king arose after the death of Joseph he was jealous of the people of Israel and became afraid that with their population they may join their enemies in times of war.

Moses Liberates The Israelites from Slavery in Egypt.
The Israelites were God’s chosen people and so were supposed to be free but many times they fell into slavery some times by the envy of their enemies but mainly by their own fault of disobedience.
10
. The new king enslaved the people of Israel and they lost their freedom. The king instructed the Jewish midwives Puah and Shiprah to kill all male children at birth. They did not obey him because they feared God so he ordered that all male Israelite children should be thrown into the river Nile for them to die.
11
. Moses was born at this time to Amram and Jachobed. His mother hid him for three months and when it became too dangerous she put him in a waterproof basket and kept him at the bank of the river Nile where Pharaoh’s daughter used to take her bath. The princess saw the child and Moses’ sister, Miriam who was waiting nearby persuaded her the princess to hire a Jewish nanny for the child. Miriam then called her mother who suckled the child.
12
. When he was weaned she brought him to the princess who raised him in the best of Egyptian civilisation. She gave him the name Moses because she said, “I drew him out of the Water”.
