Region Training Conference 2016
Preferred Charities Welcome to the workshop! Today, we will be discussing the Preferred Charities of Key Club! This is a very important topic for club officers so that they may carry out successful and focused fundraisers and projects! Region Training Conference 2016 Name, Position

What are Preferred Charities?
Charity (n.): an organization set up to provide help and raise money for those in need. By supporting the fundraising partnerships of Key Club International, we are able to uphold the Major Emphasis: Children: Their Future, Our Focus. When brainstorming new projects or fundraisers for your club, it is very important to keep the big idea in mind—our Major Emphasis. The projects that Key Clubs participate in should promote this Major Emphasis.

Major Emphasis Children: Their Future, Our Focus.
“To fulfill the Major Emphasis, Key Club International serves children in many ways. By working with Key Club International's partner organizations, Key Clubs serve children by aiding other organizations committed to serving children. Key Club International celebrates its three partnerships: UNICEF, March of Dimes, and Children's Miracle Network.” - keyclub.org

The CNH Focus The California-Nevada-Hawaii District has one Preferred Charity in addition to the KCI Partners: Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP) Remember you are not limited to these charities, BEE on the watch for local organizations as well! We will also be discussing Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP), a project that is specific to the Cal-Nev-Ha District of Kiwanis and Key Club. The organizations listed above are the preferred charities of Key Club International.

Children’s Miracle Network
CMN supports hospitalized children and increases awareness of its member hospitals. Benefits hospitals by helping to purchase proper equipment Trains doctors and implements outreach programs Provides healthcare for children whose parents struggle financially Through this organization, we are able to support several children’s hospitals across the nation.

Children’s Miracle Network
IHOP National Pancake Day In honor of National Pancake Day, IHOP serves free pancakes. All donations are given to the Children’s Miracle Network. Dairy Queen’s Miracle Treat Day Proceeds from every Blizzard Treat are donated to hospitals of the Children’s Miracle Network. Both are fun ways to get involved—be sure to promote these events within your club! You can help seat and serve at IHOP for National Pancake Day or simply invite your entire club (and Kiwanis club) for pancakes with donations to CMN.

March of Dimes This organization strives to prevent birth defects, promote healthy pregnancy, and provide medical support for premature infants. Fun Fact: March of Dimes was established by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to fight polio. This organization is primarily known for its medical assistance of premature infants.

March of Dimes March for Babies
Walks occur annually in many cities across the country. Get involved by forming a team of Key Clubbers and effectively fundraising prior to the event. Volunteer at set-up and check-in or help with face painting. For more information, visit their website: Be sure to check the website to find an event near you. It is important to do this soon, because you will need adequate time to fundraise throughout the year!

UNICEF—The Eliminate Project
Kiwanis International and UNICEF have come together to eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus from the face of the earth. + UNICEF has a very similar mission to our Major Emphasis—”UNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children’s rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to meet their full potential.”
11
UNICEF—The Eliminate Project
What is MNT? Exists in 20 countries worldwide Occurs when tetanus spores in the soil come into contact with open cuts during childbirth Causes newborns to suffer painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch Both newborns and mothers die What can we do to help? 3 doses of 60-cent immunization ($1.80) can protect mothers and their future babies As of June, 2016 the CNH District has $60,0000 left in order to complete its pledge of $500,000 by 2020. Be sure to participate in Eliminate Week! Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF with your club! Remember to emphasize the importance of educating the community about Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus to spark action to support this project.
12
Pediatric Trauma Program
Pediatric Trauma remains the leading cause of death and injury among children ages 14 and under in the United States. The Kiwanis Cal-Nev-Ha Foundation adopted PTP as its major focus. The Foundation develops local projects that will reduce the number of children in our District who are effected by trauma, allowing all children to live happy, healthy, and safe lives. This is a major focus of the Kiwanis CNH Foundation. ***Relates back to our Key Club Major Emphasis!

Pediatric Trauma Program
How to Get Involved: Begin fundraising for PTP prior to Fall Rally. At Fall Rally, time with Lt. Governors can be “bought” with the money that you fundraise as a division. Coordinate a day to create PTP Dolls, which help children understand their injuries and the possible procedures they will undergo. Be sure to start fundraising during the summer, since Fall Rally is at the beginning of the school year!
