For First Time International Travelers

2 Pre-Departure Checklist
Make sure you have these documents with you before your departure to your host university and have left copies of them at home. Passport All necessary visa and entry documents Flight Itinerary & airline and other tickets Medical history and immunization records Diplomas and transcripts Birth certificates Important addresses and phone numbers

Your temporary housing address, contact phone number and directions IELSP award letter and contract Host Institution contact numbers and other information Medicine and written prescriptions (if applicable) Extra passport photographs Photocopies of important documents, carried separately from Originals Clearly label your luggage with your name and address at the final destination.

4 Organize Your Packing Keep your travel documents with you at all times. Keep anything you use everyday in a small bag/backpack that you can carry onto the airplane. Money belt, including host currency Documents (see Pre-Departure Checklist) Clothes and personal hygiene, in case you need to stay over or you have a long travel ahead Camera, mobile phone, sunglasses Walkman, books or something else to make you busy in the plane Snack, candies, etc

Mark your baggage with your name and address in your country destination. Mark the inside of your suitcase too. Clothes, not too many Shoes (especially walking shoes) and sandal A set of traditional clothes Raincoat or umbrella A large and small towel Make-up/shaving supplies for the first month Personal hygiene for the first week/month First aid kit (common medicine) Chemical names of prescription drugs you use

Swimwear, sportswear Dictionary (optional) Favorite recipes for Indonesian food. Small packages of spices. Picture of your family, hometown. Pictures or postcards of Indonesia. Map of Indonesia. Cassette/CD/VCD of Indonesia music.

Small souvenirs or gifts for “new” friends. A supply of writing paper and airmail envelopes to last a few weeks (optional), nowadays it is common to or SMS.

 Do not carry in your bags: Swiss pocketknife Nail cutters Cutters Other sharp objects Watch out for the maximum weight of your bag

9  Departure  Be at the airport two hours before your flight.
Go to Terminal II. Find the check in gate with your flight number and destination. Stand in line, prepare to show your ticket and passport to the guard. Check your baggage and yourself through the x-ray scanner. Find the check in area with your flight number and destination.

Stand in line and check your baggage. Present your passport and airline ticket to the officer. You will be assigned : - window – isle - all flights are now non-smoking Ask for check-in through to your last destination CAE (South Carolina) You will receive a boarding pass and baggage receipt. (please check the arrival airport on the baggage receipt) You must pay the airport tax (Rp ,-).

Fill-in “Kartu Keberangkatan/Kedatangan”

Find the Fiscal Counter represented by Banks, show your boarding pass and passport and pay the Rp ,-

Go through passport control area be ready with your fiscal receipt, passport and ticket. At this post your fiscal receipt copy will be taken.

Go through Immigration and show your passport and boarding pass. Your passport will be stamped, keep the arrival card (Kartu Kedatangan) safely. When you are through Immigration, please go to the departure gate on your boarding pass.

15 The Flight Jet lag due to crossing many time zones.
During stop over, you might want to go to the transit lounge, especially if it is a long stop (a couple of hours). Arrival: Have your documents ready.

16 Menghindari Jet Lag Coba tidur sesuai dengan “waktu” setempat.
Pakai pakaian yang “nyaman”. Minum banyak cairan, hindari yang bersoda.
