1 Prof. Chris Rayner and Dr. Xiaojun Lai
iPRD Training Prof. Chris Rayner and Dr. Xiaojun Lai MSc in Chemical Process Research and Development

2 MSc in Chemical Process Research and Development
iPRD Training MSc in Chemical Process Research and Development To train chemists and chemical engineers for a career in Process Chemistry Joint Chemistry/Chemical Engineering activity Target average intake 15 students p/a Key module is design project (an in depth analysis of a specific fine chemical across its lifecycle) Laboratory or computational based 3rd semester project

3 MSc in Chemical Process Research and Development
iPRD Training MSc in Chemical Process Research and Development Chemists and chemical engineers work together to solve problems of relevance to Process Chemistry Chemists learn advanced Chemistry and fundamental chemical engineering Chemical engineers learn advanced chemical engineering and fundamental chemistry May lead to PhD opportunities in Process Chemistry at iPRD Many of the individual modules also available to PhD students conducting research in relevant area and final year undergraduates

6 Ideas needed for new projects from industry
iPRD Training Ideas needed for new projects from industry Priority given to projects with industrial funding (£1500  pounds)  Practical training for preparation for project, on use of large scale facilities Realistic expectation of what students will be able to achieve – are we making the most of their time? Industrial scholarship allocation To students with first class degrees, continuation dependent on progress Further allocation after Semester 1 exams, with stronger link to sponsor, e.g. site visit

7 iPRD Training Module : Case Studies in Fine Chemical and Pharmaceutical Synthesis Very good feedback from students; run in second semester after completion of introductory material Industrial lectures; See summary sheet provided. * Additional lecture contributions from industry are invited.
