The State Library was a partner in the DreamBIG Children’s Festival 18 – 27 May 2017. DreamBIG Children's Festival (formerly Come Out Children’s Festival) is proudly presented and managed by Adelaide Festival Centre. More than 2 million South Australian children have participated in the DreamBIG Children’s Festival since its inception in 1974 and it is an intrinsic part of growing up in South Australia. The Festival is divided into two program streams; the schools program where school children participate in This was an opportunity for students and families to work with Leigh Hobbs, who brought a trove of his picture book characters to the DreamBIG Children’s Festival. Mr. Badger, Old Tom, Horrible Harriet, Fiona the Pig and the well-travelled Mr. Chicken were all part of the fun, as well as our own Bob the Railway Dog. Leigh also supported students to create their own colourful characters – ready for adventures! In addition to the city workshops the SLSA organised a regional tour with Leigh Hobbs to regional School Community Libraries in Cummins, Cleve, Edithburgh, Minlaton, Maitland, and metropolitan libraries in Gawler, Playford and Charles Sturt. This was a unique opportunity for children to meet and talk with the author. Travelled 2,000 km 1,100 students
