Counselor Referrals Students may receive assistance from the counselor for the following services: Academic Personal Social If there is a need for an outside agency or social service the counselor can assist both parents and students

FAll The Fall season is a good time for your child to start exploring college options They will be meeting with the counselor & college advisor to help them understand what type of academic and personal support is provided to them at school Make a plan with your child regarding a regular routine for checking on homework assignments, grades etc. Plan where community service hours will be done

Graduation Requirements
Student’s PGP- Personal Graduation Plan Includes all 26 credits required for graduation Students update their own transcript audit sheet twice a year

Student transcript Student’s high school transcript- what information does it include? GPA- high school courses taken in middle school are not averaged for GPA Rank Quartile/Percentile College Transcript must be requested by the student

Top 10%- “Automatic Admission”- what does this mean?
College Admission Top 10%- “Automatic Admission”- what does this mean? Texas House Bill 588, commonly referred to as the "Top 10% Rule", is a Texas law passed in The law guarantees Texas students who graduate in the top ten percent of their high school class automatic admission to all state-funded universities.

What is the PSAT and why is it important?
The PSAT can, in some cases, be the most important test a high school student will ever take – may even be more important than the SAT itself. The PSAT names the highest achieving students in the nation to qualify as National Merit Semifinalists (who can go on to become Finalists).

College Testing for Admission
SAT and ACT Testing- What is the difference? SAT- has three sections: Reading, Writing and Math (essay optional) ACT- has four sections: Reading, Writing, Math and Science(essay optional)

10th Grade – practice PSAT taken in October Start investigating SAT subject tests Take a practice SAT on collegeboard.org *Important* Make a college “wish list” with your child Investigate SAT/ACT requirements for those schools

What’s next…. Students need to be productive with their time
Plan a holiday event and investigate a college campus or two All area colleges and universities host “Super Saturday’s” or other admission events which are free and open to the public…included on agenda Work on community service hours SAISD District GOAL

Parental Rights: Review the parent involvement plan. Review and provide input in the Title I Parent Involvement Policy and Home/School Compact. You, as Title I Parents, have the right to know the qualifications of your child’s teachers All of our teachers and staff are meet and/or exceed the highly qualified requirements for their content.
