Convergence 2014 10/13/2017 6:58 PM LCS enables predictable, repeatable, high quality implementations By delivering the right information, at the right time, to the right people Project Manager Repeatable and predictable project experience and success Developer Reduce time to develop high-quality customizations PROJECT MANAGER Define BUSINESS ANALYST Operate IT ADMINISTRATOR Develop DEVELOPER Title: LCS enables predictable, repeatable, high quality implementations Timing: 1 minute Purpose: Discuss which persona is mapped to what phase and what they each gain/realize with LCS TDM messaging Overview: With the enhanced capabilities and additional features as well as functionality that were introduced in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, the focus shifted towards larger, multi-national and global companies. With the increase in size of the companies we were working with came an increase in the complexity of those implementations. As our Solution Architects (SAs) worked with customers, they started to see areas where customers were repeatedly asking the same questions, and they started building applications to help address them. As time passed, a set of tools emerged that we realized could be gathered together under the umbrella of Application Lifecycle Management and we called it Lifecycle Services. <click> There are three phases that encompass the lifecycle Define, Develop, and Operate. These three phases are aligned with the four personas that CLS is designed and continuously developed for which are: Project Manager – They own the project workspace, manage the projects themselves and invite into the various projects the employees, partners and customers they want. - Remember, LCS is a customer owned workspace. They decide who they want to invite into, or to have access to, a project and the different tools and services. There is no limit on the number of projects you can create in LCS or the number of members of a project. This includes Microsoft as well-we cannot go into a project unless we are invited in. Business Analyst – They do a lot of requirements gathering and modeling of processes. For them, Time to Value is very important. Developer – we want to help automate as much of the process as we can for them and help them to repeatedly be able to deliver high quality customizations that deliver amazing customer experiences, increase up time, and make the experience of upgrading as simple as possible. IT Admin – we want to help them simplify the running of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 by proactively monitoring the system and highlighting, or calling out, areas that are recognized as being easier to correct now than fix later. We want to help speed up your projects by delivering the right information, at the right time, to the right people. Key messages: Designed, and continuously developed, with specific personas in mind – helps focus our efforts to meet the needs of organizations Each persona gains value specific to them, and their needs, from working with, and using, LCS Additional points: Business Analyst Data-driven and predictable implementations IT Administrator Proactive monitoring of the system © 2014 Microsoft Corporation. Need to let all users know it is an estimate. - Tops out at 1,000 concurrent users or higher and will notify user to work with a partner to estimate usage. At that level of usage/traffic it is much harder to estimate. Plus, it helps push the customer to a partner who can help them and work with them on it. Note: These are estimations – not exact, so a customer should not believe this is exactly the infrastructure they will need on-premises or on Azure. Note 2: LCS will stop providing estimates when there are over 1,000 concurrent users. At that stage, the system will give a notice asking the customer to work with their partner and/or Microsoft to help determine their needs. Reports © 2013 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved. WPC 2013 10/13/2017 6:58 PM Configuration manager (beta) Develop Copy entities from one AX instance to another Entities Customizable Title: Configuration manager (beta) Timing: 1 minute Purpose: To copy data from one AX instance to another TechNet article: Configuration manager analysis (Lifecycle Services, LCS) [AX 2012], Overview: Configuration manager helps you copy a configuration from one instance of Microsoft Dynamics AX R3 to another using entities and the Data Import/eXport Framework (DIXF). For more information about Configuration manager, visit the TechNet article referenced above. Note: This feature is not supported for production use. Configuration manager (beta) relies on entities from the Data Import/Export Framework in your environment. Because these entities do not currently include all the functionality in AX 2012 R3, some configuration data is not copied between environments. It can be used to help with moving data from Demo to Development, or Development to Testing environments. Key messages: - Entities – Analyzes an environment’s meta data to identify the partitions and legal entities and allows you to select some or all to save as part of a configuration. - Customizable – You can customize configurations to contain any number of items based on an environment. - Configuration – You can save any number of configurations each of which is based on a single environment. - Note: You cannot merge configurations from multiple environments into a single one. Additional points: - As of the release of Configuration Manager on 2-October-2014 there are about 150 entities that are shipped with AX. Additional ones will be added over time. - As part of step 3, you can reference in the screen shot on the slide “Missing Tables”. On this tab, Configuration manager identifies tables that are not part of any entity so you can decide if you want to add them to an existing entity or create a new one so they can be transferred with Configuration manager. - Note: both instances must by managed as part of an LCS project, both instances must be running system diagnostics, and both must be running DIXF.
