10 RAIDar RAIDar is a simple monitoring tool allowing users to monitor multiple NAS units in a single application Accessed through the RAIDar desktop or Quick Launch icon

If your browser security blocks access to the Frontview Admin screen, select “Continue to this website” to proceed.

13 When logging into Frontview you may receive an error if there is a problem with one or more drives.

Use this screen to set the default protocols that will be supported By Default CIFS, AFP, HTTP and HTTPS are selected

22 Change the workgroup name to your default workgroup
Note: If you are on a domain, you will need to select the Domain setting and enter the correct information

Slimdevices, Itunes, UPNP AV, and Syabas based clients are supported

The ReadyNAS supports Syabas based clients using the Home Media Streaming Server selection

You can set which file protocols are supported on each share Any USB devices that are attached to the ReadyNAS will be listed here

Any NIC card errors can be seen through the Show errors button Default MTU value can be changed to fix some throughput issues You can change the IP setting from DHCP client to static here

Do not enable VLAN unless the clients also support VLAN The ReadyNAS only supports one VLAN (on 1100 two, one for each NIC) Enable Jumbo Frames is off by default. Only enable this if client systems (and router) support Jumbo Frames Jumbo frame size for the ReadyNAS is 7936

35 Frontview (Network) Global Network Settings
The default hostname is nas- followed by the last 3 bytes of the MAC address The Default Gateway and DNS settings can only be changed when the ReadyNAS has a static IP

Specify the WINS server if you want the ReadyNAS to be browsable from other subnets Only select Enable WINS if there are no other WINS servers on the network

The DHCP Server setting is only available if the ReadyNAS is assigned a static IP

The Admin user is the only user that can access FrontView and administer privileges Create a password recovery question and enter a valid address in case you forget your password

ReadyNAS offers 3 security modes Workgroup name must be 15 characters or less Workgroup name must start with a letter Only 3 special characters supported: dash, underscore and period

Domain should be automatically auto-detected, if not then specify the domain servers IP Use of ReadyNAS in a Domain with more than 1000 users is not recommended

Four streaming services are supported: Slimserver; Itunes; UPNP AV, Syabas based server All streaming services stream directly from the ReadyNAS The Slimserver and Itunes server only stream audio

The UPNP AV server is DLNA compliant The UPNP AV server and the Home Media Streaming Server stream video, music and photos Note: The media servers do not support “all” media formats (and codec's). Check the documentation or support site for supported formats

Note: Only uncheck the services you do not plan on using. When unchecked the ReadyNAS will not advertise it’s services on the local network

Note: FlexRAID configuration includes a Remove button to allow deletion of individual drives. X-RAID does not allow this option Note: FlexRAID includes a Delete Volume button, which X-RAID does not

Snapshots are designed to allow backing up of a volume while it is still being used Snapshots can be scheduled from once every 4 hours to once a week By default the ReadyNAS ships with a Snapshot reserved space of 5GB. Note: Space reserved for snapshots is set in percent of drive space, not in MB/GB. If you are constantly getting snapshot invalidation alerts, either increase the frequency of the snapshots, or change the snapshot reserve space size Partitions on USB devices must be either FAT32; NTFS (Read-Only supported); Ext2 or Ext3 Snapshot (pg 2 of 2)

53 Frontview (Volumes) USB Storage
When the USB Flash device option is selected, if a USB Flash device is connected to the ReadyNAS the USB Flash device will have it’s entire contents automatically copied to the default selected share.

USB Printer Settings The ReadyNAS supports standard IPP over HTTP printing. If using OSX, the simplest way to use IPP printing is to use Bonjour to discover and setup print queue

All Alerts in grey are mandatory alerts which cannot be deselected In Other Alerts, the Power-off NAS when… selections will perform a graceful shutdown of the ReadyNAS

Used with SNMP management systems such as HP Openview Trap Destination is where all alert messages will be sent

The ReadyNAS has a built-in message Transfer Agent (MTA) to send alerts. If a firewall or ISP blocks MTA messages, specify a valid SMTP server to send the messages through

If Disable Journaling is checked unexpected power failures will cause a long file system check on reboot. It is always recommended to put the ReadyNAS on a UPS

Currently the ReadyNAS supports 18 different language settings

The update process only updates the firmware image, but doesn’t modify the data volume Note: It is always a good idea to backup your data before updating firmware (just in case)

Note: The update process will take several minutes: DO NOT click on the browser refresh button during the update.

If the Automatically check for updates option is the only one checked, an will be sent whenever a new firmware is available If Download updates automatically is checked, the update image will be downloaded and an will be sent notifying you to reboot the NAS to perform the update. Settings

NOTE: Resetting to Factory Default will erase everything! (data shares, volumes, user and group accounts, and configuration info) There is no way to recover after you confirm this command.

Enabling disk spin-down will “disable” journaling. Make sure to use a UPS if this is selected

When performing a volume scan or a quota check these can take several minutes to several hours to complete
