Welcome DRAFTING Welcome to Drafting for the 2011/2012 School year This will be an overview of what we will be going over this year in our class

3 Behind every product, building, or process …etc
Behind every product, building, or process are drawings and models created by someone using the techniques and principles taught in a Drafting and Design course .

4 1 Introduce Yourself Mrs. Wiles background Any drafting in your background? My name is I grew up in South Charleston WV Daughter of a Union Carbide Engineer – explains some of the reason I ended up where I did I have a Bachelors Degree in Interior Design from WVU….huge WVU fan….any WVU fan automatically gets an A in the class Most of my career has been in designing and selling kitchens and bathrooms and a Commercial Design Back in the day when I was in school too many years ago to talk about there was no valid CAD….so I ended up needing to pick up that skill to further my career possibilities So I took the class I am going to teach you this year…..Taking this class did open doors for me – most engineering firms need people who are skilled in Autocad Now I turn this to you- do I have anyone with drafting backround here? In education, nothing works if the students don't. Donald E. Simanek (1936-) American physicist, educator, humorist.

10 Drafting Orientation/Syllabus What are we gonna work on this year?
3 Drafting Orientation/Syllabus What are we gonna work on this year? Drafting Fundamentals/Techniques/Architectural/Mechanical

11 Drafting will cover such topics as :
Students working with hand drawing tools Students using AutoCad & Inventor Drafting will cover such topics as : Multiview Projection ( drawing various views of machine parts) 3D modeling and Architectural Design and Drafting. Learning to draft on the computer with Autocad, Inventor, & Revit Architecture. Increasingly sophisticated technology allows drafters to create more realistic images that almost seem like three-dimensional models, making it easy to imagine the finished structure or object . I believe 3D modeling is the way of the future and will emphasize and use it thoroughly in class.

12 Drafting Fundamentals
Introduction to Drafting and Design This part of the course teaches the basic usage of hand drawing methods using tools such as mechanical pencils, triangles, protractors and measuring scales. Students will also learn how to do the following: Letter Linetypes Produce borders Geometric shapes Hand sketches Orthographic projection drawings Dimension Autocad

13 Section Drawing Example
Drafting Techniques Introduction to Drafting and Design This course teaches students how to produce drawings in AutoCad and Inventor. Students will also learn how to draw: Auxiliary Views of objects Sectional Views Oblique Views Revolutions Patterns and Developments Isometric views Section Drawing Example

14 Architectural Drafting
Introduction to Drafting and Design This course teaches students how to produce drawings of a typical home. Students will learn how to draw Floor Plan Foundation Plan Exterior Elevations Typical Wall Section Schedules.

15 Introduction to Drafting and Design
