There are 2 important changes to GCSEs that will affect your child:
A*- G grades will be replaced with number grades (9 – 1)
The amount of work that is covered has been increased and the way each subject is assessed has also been changed.

10. AN EXAMPLE OF HOW MATHS GCSE HAS CHANGED
PREVIOUSLY:
Solve the simultaneous equations (4 marks):
3x + 2y = 4
4x + 5y = 17
NEW STYLE QUESTION (4 marks):
Susie has to deliver some packages and some parcels.
The total number of packages is 4 times the number of parcels.
The total number of packages and parcels is 40
Each parcel has a weight of 1.5 kg.
The total weight of the packages and parcels is 37.6 kg.
Each of the packages has the same weight.
Work out the weight of each package.

11. WHAT WE DOING TO PREPARE YOUR CHILD FOR THESE CHANGES:
We have started teaching the GCSE course from year 7
We have changed our assessments to reflect the changes at GCSE
We now monitor the performance of the students against the GCSE standards/criteria
We are identifying students that are struggling and providing them with additional support
We are ensuring that homework questions are of GCSE standard
We are aiming to finish teaching the course at the end of year 10 to give enough time to go over things in year 11
We are making sure that the quality of teaching matches GCSE standard in all subjects

12. WHEN WILL YOUR CHILD BE ASSESSED THIS TERM?
IN ADDITION TO INFORMAL ASSESSMENTS IN LESSONS, YOUR CHILD WILL BE TESTED FORMALLY EACH TERM:
