2 To make consistent decisions about assessments that effect the educational needs of English Language Learners. There are many English Language Learners that do not have the foundation or prior knowledge that they need to be successful academically when they enter schools in the United states. Purpose of LPAC

3 Role of LPAC To fulfill state requirements LPAC must:
Follow procedures in the TEA manual Monitor student progress & determine appropriate instructional interventions Make decisions on individual student basis Function as a committee Document decisions, instructional intervention & the reasons why specific students that have been determined as exempt Role of LPAC

4 LPAC is responsible for determining which Spanish speaking ELLs in grades 3-5 will take their TAKS in English or Spanish. Spanish TAKS are generally given to students that are in Bilingual programs & receive most of their instruction in Spanish. Students that are in ESL programs normally take it in English; however the Spanish TAKS is sometimes necessary Language of Testing

5 Criteria for Exemptions
Examine student’s school experience outside the United States. Monitor the progress of student up until the Spring test is administered. Criteria for Exemptions

7 There are 2 types of accommodations for testing ELL’s:
Indirect Support Direct Support Indirect support testing do not have to be recorded in the students records. LPAC has to make the decision whether or not the student can receive direct support for test. This information has to be recorded in the students record. LAT Accommodations
