From: Adult Ovarian Retinoblastoma Genomic Profile Distinct From Prior Childhood Eye Tumor Arch Ophthalmol. 2011;129(8): doi: /archophthalmol Figure Legend: Figure 1. Radiological and pathological imaging. A, Coronal computed tomographic image of the abdomen showing a large pelvic tumor (arrowhead) extending into the abdomen with marked ascites. B, Axial computed tomographic image showing cystic (double arrowheads) and solid (single arrowhead) areas in the pelvic tumor. C, Section of the ovarian mass showing the small blue cell tumor, with a normal ovarian follicle in the lower right corner (hematoxylin-eosin). D, Ovarian follicle (hematoxylin-eosin). E, Immunohistochemistry of the normal ovary showing vimentin positivity (inhibin, desmin, calretinin, actin, and pancytokeratin positivity not shown). F, Magnification of the small blue cell tumor (hematoxylin-eosin). Homer Wright rosettes (G) and Flexner-Wintersteiner rosettes (H) in the ovarian tumor (hematoxylin-eosin). Immunohistochemistry of the ovarian tumor showing CD56 positivity (I), a high MIB-1 index (J), and synaptophysin positivity (K) (also positive for neuron-specific enolase but negative for chromogranin, desmin, CD99, pancytokeratin, S-100 protein, HMB45, epithelial membrane antigen, and CEA-P, not shown). From: Adult Ovarian Retinoblastoma Genomic Profile Distinct From Prior Childhood Eye Tumor Arch Ophthalmol. 2011;129(8): doi: /archophthalmol Figure Legend: Figure 2. Molecular analysis with quantitative multiplex polymerase chain reaction to determine copy numbers of MYCN, KIF14, DEK, E2F3, and CDH11 in eye and ovarian tumors. The copy number for each gene is assessed by comparing with the internal 2-copy control ACVRL1 (blue asterisk), RLBP1 (the other 2-copy internal control not shown), normal blood (normal 2-copy negative control), and a well-characterized retinoblastoma control with known gains and loss (not shown). Lines indicate equivalent positions on each plot of normal blood and eye and ovarian tumors; arrows, gains and amplification. The copy number gains are shown in red; amplification in red and bold; and copy number loss in italics. Two separate quantitative multiplex polymerase chain reaction peaks were observed for CDH11 in the patient's ovarian tumor and peripheral blood (not shown), representing 1 normal allele and 1 variant allele, an infrequent polymorphism from a 2–base pair insertion in intron 1. The single peak in the eye tumor represents the polymorphic variant. Date of download: 9/22/2017 Copyright © 2011 American Medical Association. All rights reserved.
