Strategic goal/ Forsyth Library Mission Forsyth Library supports the learning, teaching, research, and service activities of Fort Hays State University and the greater community.  To accomplish this mission, the Library applies its resources in an ethical, socially accountable and reflective manner.  In addition, the Library establishes a culture that ensures and emphasizes the role and value of knowledge for supporting individual and institutional learning. Deliver value Service to the patron Discoverability – provide centralized access to ALL library resources (Primo) Sustainability – maintaining a vibrant and dynamic collection Relevance – do patrons want everything, or do they want the “right” thing? 8 Benefits of Weeding Currency and relevance for Curricular and Institutional Needs Save Time More Appealing Collection Enhanced Reputation Constant feedback on strengths/weaknesses Continuous check on the need for mending; identifying lost and stolen items in need of replacement. Allows for ongoing weeding where shabby items, superseded or unused items can be removed. Scheduled weeding allows for examining specific areas of the collection. Gap analysis (BBAS) Provides staff greater knowledge of the collection Provides patrons easier access to the right materials

Criteria Needs and demands of users Suitability/relevance to discipline, to curriculum Availability/Affordability of more suitable/relevant material Future usefulness Does the Material serve an archival purpose? Depth of subject coverage Is title available through I.L.L. (Inter-Library Loan)? Checklist of Factors Date – when published? Author – still read or likely to be read? Is the resource a “lesser” work? Publisher – self published or “instant” press. Was it vetted? Physical condition Additional copies Superseded editions Similar titles – what else is available if work is discarded?
