New Years Prayers The Bible is rich with prayers.
In the prayers of the Bible there are many lessons that we can learn. As we learn we can apply what is learned to our own prayers.
3
New Years Prayers In John 17 we can read a prayer of Jesus.
In 1 Chron. 4:10 we can read the prayer of Jabez. In Numbers 6:24-26 we can read of a prayer for the children of Israel.
4
New Years Prayers 1. In John 17 we can read a prayer of Jesus. It is one prayer that has three distinct points made by our Lord. In His prayer Jesus prayed for Himself, His immediate followers and His followers that were to come.
5
New Years Prayers As we consider this prayer we learn to pray for ourselves. Acts 8:22 – Peter told Simon to repent and pray 2 Cor. 12:7-8 – Paul prayed for relief from his affliction 2 Kings 20:3 – offer prayers to God in the model of Hezekiah’s
6
New Years Prayers We can also learn to pray for others.
Matt. 5:44 – pray for those who spitefully use you 1 Tim. 2:1-2 – pray for leaders Eph. 1:15-16 – pray for other saints
7
New Years Prayers We also learn to pray for those we have not met.
Rom. 1:9-10 – Paul prayed for the saints in Rome Rom. 10:1 – we can pray for those outside of Christ
8
New Years Prayers 2. In 1 Chron. 4:10 we can read the prayer of Jabez.
At first glance this prayer might seem to be a bit presumptuous and demanding but it is truly a prayer of recognition and praise.
9
New Years Prayers Jabez pleads with God for blessings. We can pray for blessings. We do this because God desires that we seek the blessings that come for Him. Matt. 6:25-34 – we must put God first and worry less Phil. 4:6 – we make our requests known to God God already knows what we need but by asking Him we demonstrate that we are looking to Him.
10
New Years Prayers Jabez also pleads that God would be with him.
We should desire for God to be with us each day. Matt. 6:13 – Jesus teaches us to pray for guidance from evil and deliverance from the evil one 1 Cor. 10:13 – God has told us that He provides a means of escape from temptation. Psalm 25:4-5 – we should pray for leadership from the God of our salvation Psalm 119: – is word is the light for our path
11
New Years Prayers We should also desire to not cause pain.
Col. 3:12-14 – we are to put on these traits Matt. 18:6-7 – the greatest pain we can cause is when we cause another to sin
12
New Years Prayers 3. In Numbers 6:24-26 we can read of a prayer for the children of Israel. This is such a simple and wonderful prayer for others. It offers pure supplications for others without a hint a self-indulgence, self-interest or selfishness.
13
New Years Prayers We can have confidence in the blessings of God as we strive to serve Him. It is not a matter of keeping us with the physical necessities but the knowledge that God will keep us for salvation. 2 Tim. 1:12 – when we commit our soul to God we know that God will keep it until that day
14
New Years Prayers This is not a justification of the once saved always saved doctrine, but the commitment that a Christian has in serving God. Matt. 5:45 – God pours out His blessings upon His creation Matt. 6:33 – God watches over His children Phil. 4:6-7 – through prayer we can keep our anxiousness in place and have a better understanding of the peace that guards us until the return of Jesus
15
New Years Prayers As the new year begins we might make resolutions.
These resolutions are rarely kept so instead of setting ourselves up for a failure let us set ourselves for success by making New Years Prayers part of our daily life.
16
New Years Prayers These prayers include praying for ourselves, praying for others and praying for those we have yet to meet. These prayers include recognition of God and His care for us. These prayers are for our leaders. These prayers are for saints everywhere. These prayers are for the strength and courage we need each day as we face a world that moves further away from God with each passing day.
