2. Goal of Studying Learn the material to pass the test
Learn the material well enough to be able to use it again in the future
Math is a cumulative subject
ALL of you will have to take math classes in the future – every class builds on a previous math class!

3. Memorizing Most of mathematics studying is not based on memorizing
What should be memorized?
Formulas
Vocabulary definitions and properties
Rules
Memorizing should be done a few days before the exam
Use flashcards to help you memorize

4. Six Steps of Studying 1. Starting out (a week in advance)
Look over notes from class (In order to do this, you have to take notes in class!)
Look over homework assigned
2. Make an exam (at least 3 days
before)
You can either test yourself or a study buddy
3. Restudy (2 days before)
Go over the questions you did not understand from the exam you made up

5. Six Steps of Studying 4. Review notes and homework again
(1 day before)
Bring questions into class to clarify any unknown topics
5. Final run through of flashcards and
any problems missed from homework or class work (Night before the exam)
6. RELAX!!!
If you followed all of the steps, take some time to relax the night before the exam. Watch an episode of your favorite tv show or listen to music to calm yourself before the exam.

6. Cramming Cramming DOES NOT work
You immediately forget cramming after the test
If you get nervous during the test, you are less likely to remember anything you crammed for

7. Study Habits
All of the studying in the world will not make you successful unless you have good study habits throughout the entire year.
Keep up with homework – homework is there for you to test yourself and reinforce concepts discussed in class
Take good notes in class – that includes what is written on the board and important things said in class
