1 President Trump fires acting AG

2 President Donald Trump fired acting Attorney General Sally Yates Monday night for "refusing to enforce a legal order designed to protect the citizens of the United States," the White House said. Trump didn't call Yates to dismiss her, she was informed by hand-delivered letter, according to an administration official. The move came soon after Yates told Justice Department lawyers not to make legal arguments defending Trump's executive order on immigration and refugees. Yates was appointed by President Barack Obama and was set to serve until Jeff Sessions, Trump's nominee for attorney general, is confirmed. "My responsibility is to ensure that the position of the Department of Justice is not only legally defensible, but is informed by our best view of what the law is after consideration of all the facts," Yates wrote in a letter. "In addition, I am responsible for ensuring that the positions we take in court remain consistent with this institution's solemn obligation to always seek justice and stand for what is right. At present, I am not convinced that the defense of the executive order is consistent with these responsibilities nor am I convinced that the executive order is lawful." Trump's executive order, signed Friday, bars citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States for the next 90 days, suspends the admission of all refugees for 120 days and indefinitely suspends the Syrian refugee program. Yates' decision came amid a flood of protests against the executive order nationwide and after four federal judges ruled against Trump's order.

3 In Other News President Trump is expected to reveal his Supreme Court pick today or tonight for the spot opened up by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia. Transgender boys are now free to join the Boy Scouts. The Boy Scouts of America said it was changing its policy so that membership would be based on the gender listed on an application and not on a birth certificate. Laws on gender identity vary from community to community and state to state, so the Scouts thought it was simpler to adopt this new policy. The change comes after an 8-year-old scout in New Jersey said he was kicked out for being transgender. In 2015 the ban on gay adults as Scout leaders was lifted; three years ago openly gay youths were allowed to join. Doctors in India removed a tapeworm measuring more than 6 feet through a patient's mouth. A 48-year-old man complained of "tolerable" abdominal pain that had gone on for two months. Doctors performed an endoscopy, a procedure using a camera inserted into the patient's stomach to view the intestines. Doctors were able to see images of the lengthy parasite residing in the small intestine. After sedating the man, a team of physicians was able to extract the worm by pulling it through his mouth with a pair of forceps.
