WELCOME PARENTS! BUZZ DEMONSTRATION AND INFORMATION

Parent Buzz Demonstration
After tonight you should: Know how to access RDS/Buzz Understand the key features of the observer account Understand the relationship between the RDS views and the Buzz views Realize the power that Buzz holds for all stakeholders

Go to Click on RDS Parent /Student Access

Parent Buzz Demonstration
You should now be at this screen and ready to enter your username and password. After entering your username and password, you can click Login or press the Enter key on your keyboard.

You can have the system automatically reset your RDS password or unlock your account. Click on the Forgot your password? link and enter your username and answer to your secret question. A new password will be ed to the address listed in your account.

You can update your address or change your password via account settings. RDS Gradebook is no longer available. Grades only available through Buzz. Since the teachers are no longer entering assignments into the RDS gradebook, the courses in RDS are no longer clickable. Instead you will use Buzz to see the grade details that you used to see in the RDS gradebook.

A quick grade overview is on the schedule tab GP1-- red frame GP 2-- green frame

Parent Buzz Demonstration
Observing: Shows you which student you are viewing. All of the students you can observe are listed in the drop down menu. Parent name: Your name always appears here in the corner.

Items appear in the To-do panel if the teacher sets a due date (not required). Overdue items say Past Due. Note that it’s possible that the item has been turned in but not graded yet.

The To-do panel is searchable for specific assignments or by course.

Announcements are the way that most teachers will communicate their weekly activities and due dates. They show up on the home screen until read.

After the initial reading, announcements can be accessed via clicking on the three horizontal bars and then on Communication.

The notifications appear on the course home screen, below the upcoming/most recent section.

Click on the three horizontal bars and then Performance to start looking more deeply at grades. Click on Grades in the new screen.

Categories in ELA (red frame): Reading and Responding--Non Fiction Reading and Responding--Literature Narrative Writing Informative Writing Argumentative Writing Use of Language Passing scores show in green; scores below 70% will show in red.

Parent Buzz Demonstration
Paper icons usually mean that something has been submitted in the system. It could also mean that an item has been started, but not finished. Until the student finishes it and submits it, the teacher can’t really grade it. Circular arrows mean that a student can resubmit the work for a higher grade, allowing students to learn & master objectives.

Grades: Shows the full semester’s worth of assignments unless they are hidden from student view. Activity: Shows the time spent on activities done in the Buzz LMS. Objective Mastery: Shows mastery of the standards in a course.

For Me: Allows students to self-assign activities or teacher to add for specific students What if: Predicting grade if scores were different (may be unavailable soon) Analytics: Gives info on how class did (no names; may be unavailable soon) Badges: Can be assigned by teachers for specific accomplishments, citizenship, and more

Clicking here will keep you in the same relative view (Activities, for example), but will switch you to whatever class you select.

Clicking on Home will take you back to the Home screen.

Clicking on the “image” under your name will get you to a Help link.

Some trouble-shooting tips: We recommend using Chrome for the best user experience. Be sure to always log off of Buzz when you are done using it, especially if other family members log into Buzz on that same device. If Buzz seems to take a long time to load, consider clearing your browsing history, closing the browser, restarting the browser, logging into RDS, and clicking Buzz once again.
