Wednesday, January 11, 2017 7:00 pm HS auditorium
2
State funded opportunity to earn college credit
What is CCP? State funded opportunity to earn college credit College- ready students: determined by college Grades 7 -12 Many college course options Public colleges are free Private colleges may include small cost
3
Graduate with College Credit
A student can earn up to 30 college credit hours per academic year: Terms – Summer, Fall, Spring Up to120 college credit hours for the entire high school CCP program
4
Potential Benefits Expands the curriculum
Allows students to earn college credit before graduating from high school May help reduce college costs/time spent in college after HS graduation Allows students to experience college- level course work and college life Is the course going to get me where I need to be in the next few years?
5
Potential Risks/Consequences
Increased responsibility for learning May impact participation in high school activities/athletics Possibility of exposure to adult content and information and age differences in college courses Attendance in college is totally up to the individual student Student fails or drops later than 14 days after course began, district may seek tuition reimbursement if not economically disadvantaged Cost per credit hr if class is failed: BGSU/Eastwood ($150), Owens ($40), University of Findlay ($41.50) Parents will NOT receive notification if the student does not report to class – Attendance statement
6
Potential Risks/Consequences
Increased time for travel, study, etc. Possible effects on GPA and class standing Unable to be on first and third quarter honor roll because grades are not available until completion of each semester May impact future financial aid eligibility Beginning collegiate academic transcript
7
Academic/Social Responsibility
Students are expected to follow the rules and regulations set by the college/university Students needing support services while participating in CCP should utilize the available support services at the institution such as math, writing, or computer labs Students are responsible for transportation and any related costs such as parking fees Students are expected to follow the rules and regulations detailed in the student handbook Timeframe – limited office hours from instructor Labs – students should not depend on Eastwood teachers for guidance since they are not teaching the class. Have students speak about his/her experience.
8
Books and Fees Students are not responsible for the cost of tuition, fees, and textbooks for courses successfully completed through a public post-secondary institution A private post-secondary institution may charge the student a fee per credit hour for courses taken, which the student is responsible for paying. Students qualifying for Free/Reduced Lunch program may not be charged.
9
Athletes Full-time CCP: must be enrolled in a minimum of 13 credit hours and no more than 15 credit hours Blended schedule: athlete must be passing five, one credit courses or equivalent per grading period Phys Ed (.25) does not qualify as one of the five classes Not guaranteed that a college course will meet eligibility guidelines through NCAA clearinghouse Div I or Div II
10
Weighted Grades College courses must be weighted equally to the greatest weight of honors classes, in the same subject area. Receiving a failing grade, a withdraw fail, or incomplete will be calculated into HS GPA Honors Class College Course

34
Look at what works for each student!
CCP combinations - YES Look at what works for each student!
35
Scheduling Formula to determine eligible amount of college credits:
High School credits x 3. Subtract result from 30 Work with your Eastwood counselor to determine how college courses will be applied towards Eastwood graduation requirements Students may not drop a full-year course at Eastwood to enroll in a second semester course at the university
36
Scheduling If you choose to drop CCP second semester you must notify your guidance counselor immediately as it may put you in jeopardy of not graduating on time College school year schedule will be different than Eastwood schedule (Christmas and Spring Breaks do no coincide)
37
Schedule formula Formula:
Student Schedule at HS shows he/she is here periods 1 – 2 Formula: Taking 2 high school classes X 3 = 6 Total College Credit hours 30 – 6 = 24 So 24 is the maximum number of college credit hours student can take for the entire academic year Periods 1 -2 are all high school only classes is the maximum college credits for entire academic year….the student may end up using less that number for the year…that is okay……scheduling CCP in afternoon is most helpful with hs courses
38
Transferring Credits https://transfercredit.ohio.gov
Participation does not guarantee a student will be admitted to other colleges/universities During senior year when student is applying to colleges, the student is responsible for requesting a college transcript that was created while taking CCP courses Student’s responsibility to contact advisor at college/university of interest to determine how college credits will apply Ohio Transfer to Degree Guarantee Public universities guarantee to transfer for gen ed course Private universities does not have that guarantee course will transfer
39
The Conversion of Credit
College hours = HS credit 3-5 sem hr college course =1.0 HS credit 2 sem hr college course =.66 HS credit 1 sem hr college course =.33 HS credit Courses will be listed by course title on HS transcript
