When we founded Carmel Road in 1999, our goal was to produce exceptional, hand-made wines from Monterey County, one of California’s premier, cool-climate, winegrowing AVAs. Clark Ranch, Arroyo Seco: Located just adjacent to Santa Lucia Highlands. Planted predominantly to Chardonnay with a small section of Pinot Noir Gravelstone, Arroyo Seco: Located in the heart of Arroyo Seco within and old river bed Cobbled, gravely soils produce a lot of minerality and is planted predominantly to Chardonnay Porter Ranch, Monterey: Situated in the west-facing foothills below the Gabilan Mountain Range One of the highest elevated vineyards in Salinas Valley at 800 feet Valley View, Monterey: Located at the base of the Gabilan Mountain Range – rolling hills reminiscent to Carneros Rincon, Monterey: - Located the farthest north in Salinas Valley and is the coolest due to proximity to the Pacific Ocean High-Density vs. 3,500 vines/acre 15 clusters/vine 5 lbs/vine Traditional 1,000 vines/acre 30-40 clusters/vine 10-15 lbs/vine

SUSTAINABILITY – Working hand in hand with nature to make better wines. We are a Monterey winery dedicated to making remarkable, cool-climate wines nurtured by our ongoing commitment to sustainability. We believe that making great wines and preserving this special place are goals that go hand in hand. Since 2008 our vineyards have been certified sustainable by the SIP organization (Sustainability In Practice). From water management in the vineyard and cellar to using natural predators like falcons to manage vineyard pests, we are always looking to conserve energy and preserve our land for future generations. WINEMAKER - Kris Kato Winemaker Kris Kato grew up in Portland, Oregon, where he developed “the beer bug.” But the fermentation science program at Oregon State University led him down the path of winemaking. He’s worked at Central Coast wineries large and small, and notes both experiences prepared him for his role at Carmel Road, where he focuses on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. He’s excited to be working with Monterey fruit, including from the winery’s Panorama Vineyard. INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT MONTEREY & CARMEL ROAD: The Blue Grand Canyon is less than a mile off the coast of Monterey. This underwater canyon, larger than the Grand Canyon in Arizona, keeps the ocean extremely cold and creates a very cool ocean breeze that air conditions the vines naturally. Falcons are used to control rodent damage and maintain the ecosystem. The large rocks that are scattered through the vineyards are called “Greenfield Potatoes” and they hold the heat of the day and keep the soil warm. The Salinas Valley is 90 miles long and grows over 40,000 acres of grapes The Salinas River is the largest river of the central coast of California running 170 miles. The use of the river for irrigation in the Salinas Valley makes it one of the most productive agricultural regions in California.
