2. Pre College Initiative Background
In the past a lack of a unified policy for pre-college clubs and pre- college has left SWE Regions and Sections without guidance or tools to answer pre-college requests
The Outreach and Membership Committees have received requests for guidance from Sections and/or Regions where:
High School clubs have formed organically are seeking SWE affiliation
Pre-college women are seeking to individually affiliate with SWE
Adopted a policy to allow Pre-College Clubs to Affiliate with SWE in FY14

3. Pre College Initiative Overview
After collaborative dialogue between the Outreach and Membership Committees, our joint recommendations are to take a phased approach to create a unified SWE policy for Pre-College Women:
Phase 1 FY15
Establish affiliation option for pre-college women SWEnext
Encourage Pre-College Clubs to Affiliate with SWE FY15
Phase 2 FY15/FY16
Provide program and content support

4. Pre College Initiative Policy
Adopted a policy to allow pre-college clubs to affiliate with SWE in FY14
Basic premise is to establish the minimum necessary policy guidance to allow these clubs to exist, and continue using SWE branding
No section or region support or endorsement is required for a club to exist and affiliate provide they meet minimum criteria
Do not discourage pre-college groups that form organically

5. Pre College Initiative Phase 1
The SWEnext affiliate option for pre-college girls (11-18 year olds) set to be implemented in September/October.
Create an affiliation option for pre-college women in the membership database
The affiliates will have the option of listing their club or advisory member. Will also allow for individual affiliation.
Affiliation is limited and will not grant access to SWE login information.
Provide pre-college activity content via the SWE Outreach website to adult advisors of these clubs

6. Pre College Initiative Phase 1
Establish a social community around pre-college (individuals and clubs)
Launch webinars targeted to this demographic in conjunction with our partnerships with EngineerGirl and FabFems.

7. Pre College Initiative Phase 2
Provide a toolkit and content support to clubs
Provide sufficient tools and guidance that sections and regions can go out and actively encourage these groups to form and affiliate with SWE if they have the capacity to do so
Groups can still exist without a direct relationship to a section or region, but there will be programs, and content guidance to support both the clubs and the sections if they want to work together
Encourage, support, and track pre-college activities

8. Next Steps SWEnext will be implemented in September and October
link posted on SWE website for pre college girls to sign up to participate in SWEnext
Advertise SWEnext
Outreach committee will develop SWEnext slides for Region Governors to share with the Regions
Start providing content (mailings, webinars and club tools) for SWEnext

10. Policy for Pre-College Clubs Seeking SWE Affiliation and Branding
The Society will allow pre-college clubs and organizations to affiliate and brand themselves with the Society of Women Engineers, provided all of the following conditions are satisfied and maintained:  
The organization is advised by at least one registered member of the Society. This member may be a pre college (K-12) Educator member of the Society.
The club must maintain their operations and images in such a way that is consistent with mission and core values of the Society.
Any use of the Society of Women Engineers logo, name, or brand must be used in accordance with the SWE Logo Policy and Guidelines, available here.

11. Policy for Pre-College Clubs Seeking SWE Affiliation and Branding
  A pre-college club does not need to have the direct support, participation, or endorsement of a section or region in order to affiliate themselves with the Society as set forth above. While it is highly valuable and desirable for a pre-college club to work with a section and/or a region, it is not a requirement for affiliation.

14. Service Model: STEP Up Program
Service Through Engineering Program
Collaboration between high schools or after school institutions, SWE, and community
Six teams of 2-5 girls; 16 mentors
Four teams school-based, one GS, one BEWiSE
16 weeks, hour mentor commitment
Girls Scouts provided venue for group events
Partnered with local children’s hospital to develop toys or tools for developmentally challenged children or their therapists.

15. After School Model: TEEMS Program
Together Exploring Engineering, Math, and Science
Collaboration between SWE and Girls Inc.
Recurrent hands-on activities
Ages 8-14
3 sessions, minimum
Formal MOU with local affiliate
$2,000 grant, funds disbursed at milestones
