HAITI EMERGENCY APPEAL
“Food is scarce, clean water is scarce, but hope abounds. Roofs are gone, livestock are gone, but hope abounds. During my three days in Jeremie I have seen hope in the midst of devastation, it has been the hope of the victims that has reinforced my hope for Haiti.” - Marc Antoine, Tearfund Haiti For I know the plans I have for you (Haiti), declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you (Haiti) a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

Haiti Prayer Points - Hurricane Matthew
• We give thanks for our partners like World Concern and World Relief who have been able to successfully carry out food distributions, to vulnerable households who lost their livelihoods and food supplies. We pray that these food packs might be a blessing to those who are truly in need. • In the worst-hit areas, communities depend on subsistence farming for their livelihoods. However, with crops destroyed, many families are now in a very vulnerable situation. Please pray that they may be able to replant some crops in time to reap a small harvest in the new year.

• Due to the effects of El Nino, Haiti has been in drought for the last two years. The forthcoming harvest was expected to be good; however, most of the crops have been destroyed- which is predicted to make 3 million Haitians food insecure. Please pray that the affected communities will be provided with all they need, and that humanitarian assistance will reach them. • Please pray for our team in Haiti who have been working incredibly hard to coordinate the emergency response to Hurricane Matthew- please pray for energy, wisdom, and good health for the whole team as they manage heavy workloads. • 40% of those affected by the hurricane are children; many schools have been destroyed, and school materials have been swept away. Additionally, with a real strain on their finances at this time, many parents are now unable to pay school fees. Please pray that school-children will be able to return to school so that their education is not disrupted for too long. Please pray that whilst their homes might be damaged, may their family units remain strong. • Please pray for those struggling emotionally and mentally in the aftermath of the hurricane- please pray that they would know the Lord’s comfort at this time, as they come to terms with their losses.

• Some of the worst-hit areas are still very difficult to access, to provide humanitarian assistance. Please pray that these routes open up soon to allow essential support to reach the most vulnerable communities. • Please pray for those on the ground, working hard to provide humanitarian assistance to those in need. It is a challenging context, and we are confronted with various security and safety hazards. Please pray for the safety of our staff and partners, as we work to reach those most in need.
