Front Row Ed 2017/18 District Benchmark & Usage
Pamela Dombrowski
2
Overview of Front Row Ed
Purchased for Math Grades 1 – 5 to be used as a screener and an MTSS resource FREd has been very responsive to our requests and questions They have created a district site – and now district benchmarks Aly Pence (408) Emily Glick (415)
3
Purpose of Today Move students into the correct classes
Explain District Benchmarks Explain Expectations for Use
4
Students into Classes We wanted to keep data – that would have required each coach to delete all 5th graders, then move 4th grade into correct classes and so on – add new students – and create a list of students that transferred between buildings so Aly could change them….. Painful but doable…. PROBLEM - no uniformity in names (ex. Joey P) After a long conversation with Aly and Emily – we changed our plan on Monday Pam archived each student – one at a time – can’t bulk delete yet Pam sent a list of teachers that transferred buildings to Aly to change schools Jade created accounts for new teachers Karl and Jade created a CSV to upload all students and sent to FREd for Tech to upload

District Expectations for 2017/18
1. All students take Diagnostic Pretests at the beginning of the year in each domain 2. Students will take three district benchmark assessments (Test by dates are Sept.8, Dec. 15, May 4) 3. Students will use Front Row Ed during MTSS time to practice math skills as needed.
6
Expectations for Use Diagnostic Pretests for Each Domain - By archiving the students – they can’t continue from where they left off This is only done at the beginning of the year – no need for teachers to assign – it will automatically appear There are 4-5 domains depending on the grade level. These are based on the common core standards and domains. The pretest is diagnostic and adaptive. The test starts off two grade levels below their registered level. The number of questions varies. The more they get correct, the longer the test. It needs to be done in one sitting. Each should be about 10 minutes. This will tell you the approximate grade level of where the students are working in that domain. Then students will start their practice at this level. Students need to complete each pretest in one setting – there is no save and quit – If a student does extremely bad (uncharacteristic for this student) – a teacher can reset the pretest and have the student retake. Like always… Students need to take the diagnostic pretest in each domain by Sept. 8 (Examples on next slide of where to go) Some students may be mad – but we would want them to pretest at the beginning of the year anyway….this is the diagnostic adaptive practice

Student View – select math for pretests

Pretests for each domain are waiting to be taken – If pretest was taken – there will be a resume at the level working to click into practice Pretests for each domain are waiting to be taken – If pretest was taken – there will be a resume at the level working to click into practice
9
District Benchmarks Fixed test – same questions for all students in that grade – They are grade level equivalent questions assessing what students know for all common core standards at that grade level Measures growth over time – we will assign three times a year Pam Dombrowski will assign and set the window and time to test – (It will only be available during the school day and not over weekends). It will be about a two week window. We will only be able to assign to students who are already in Front Row Ed when I assign the test – new students won’t test until the next benchmark (like state assessment testing windows) – have them work on their pretests or assign a teacher benchmark for new students All reports will come to the district – Pam or Jade will send reports to coaches and principals to forward to teachers They won’t see questions and responses like teacher benchmarks – only proficiency by standards Teachers can still assign their own benchmarks if they want to
10
District Benchmarks (cont) 3rd – 5th Grade Only
30-35 questions (most students average 1 hour) – can take in multiple sittings – there is a save and quit feature (it will start students on next questions when they return) Once they answer the question, they can’t go back or forward (they are working on this feature for the future) 3rd – 5th Grade - Each teacher needs to print the passwords before the window starts – each student will still log into their account like normal – but there will be a password to start the test – it is different for each student Teachers will print passwords From their Activity Feed Teachers can still assign their own benchmarks if they want to
11
Student View – select assignments for benchmarks or any teacher assigned tasks
12
Students will login to their account like normal – they will go to the assessments box - District Benchmark will show up under Assessments
13
When you click on the box – this is what appears- each student has a different password
14
District Benchmarks (cont) 1st and 2nd Grade Only
30-35 questions (most students average 1 hour) – can take in multiple sittings – there is a save and quit feature (it will start students on next questions when they return) Once they answer the question, they can’t go back or forward (they are working on this feature for the future) 1st&2nd Grade – needed to create separate account – different Protocol for now since FREd doesn’t have benchmarks for 1st and 2nd and we want all students to have the same test The District will send a spreadsheet to the teacher -first name(with a school number), last name and code(same for all students) – the numbers help us separate the results by school and teacher (Example next slide) 616APamela Dombrowski 54T43 616AJade White 54T43 Teacher does not need to print tickets –could just write the information on the board Teachers can still assign their own benchmarks if they want to
15
District Benchmarks (cont) 1st and 2nd Grade Only
Example 1st grade teachers at Example Bldg 616 (two teachers Mrs. Miller will be A, Mr. Smith will be B) The District will send a spreadsheet to the teacher -first name(with a school number), last name and code(same for all students) Mrs. Miller’s students (616A in front of each first name, then last name, then class code – will be the same for all 1st graders) 616APamela Dombrowski 54T43 616AJade White 54T43 Mr. Smith’s students (616B in front of each first name, then last name then class code- still the same) 616BSusie Smith 54T43 616BJohn Doe 54T43 Teacher does not need to print tickets –could just write the information on the board All students go to student.frontrowed.com and put in these three pieces of information rather than their normal login Teachers can still assign their own benchmarks if they want to

Look for all domains benchmark assessment – it should be the only assignment in this box

What We Need To Do…. Students are uploaded on Monday- Check our rosters with FREd accounts…. Add students by hand if they aren’t there First Name, Last Name, Grade level (We need to stress to teachers – Students should always be listed at their actual grade level) Share information with Principals and Teachers, on expectations, benchmarks and adding students – I will send Power point and handout in by end of the day Can start pretests as soon as students are loaded Testing Window for this first test – Monday, Aug. 28 to Friday, Sept. 8th - All tests need to be completed by the 8th at end of school day Actual Grade level – the pretests will move them to the appropriate level to work at in class
