OVERVIEW The “Sport Pilot and Light-Sport Aircraft” rules address the certification of – Light-Sport aircraft Sport pilot and flight instructor with a sport rating Repairmen Inspection and maintenance of the new experimental and special light-sport aircraft We are pleased that Administrator Blakey announced on July 20, 2004 that the FAA has signed off on the new Sport Pilot and Light-Sport Aircraft rules. These new rules represent a collaborative effort of industry and government. The entire aviation community will benefit from this partnership. The Admisntrated Stated at the press conference on July 20, 2004 held at FAA headquarters in Washington, DC with the issuance of the final rule “Getting wings just got considerably less expensive with one stroke of the pen. And light sport aviation just got an infusion of safety.” She went on to say that … ““This new FAA rule establishes a strong and vibrant infrastructure that will greatly reduce the barriers of becoming a pilot and aircraft owner while assuring that safety will always be the number one priority,” said FAA Administrator Marion C. Blakey. “The FAA is making recreational flying safer while keeping it affordable and fun for aviation enthusiasts now and into the future.” Cover slide

WHAT ARE THE PUBLIC BENEFITS?
Impacts a large population – Airmen and Aircraft Operate an FAA registered and certificated aircraft Aircraft inspected and maintained by certificated airman Purchase “Ready to Fly Aircraft” Comp or hire: Flight Training/Rental Hold an FAA Pilot Certificate Carry a passenger Flight instruct Provides for better access to: Insurance, financing, airports, and increased acceptance by general aviation community The SP/LSA rules offers a simplified regulatory path that removes the barriers of time and money that have prevented many people from earning a pilot certificate or continuing their flying activities --- while ensuring that safety will always be the number one priority. The new light-sport aircraft category will offer the public the opportunity to purchase more affordable ready-to-fly aircraft and aircraft kits that will require less building time. To operate an FAA registered and certificated aircraft that is inspected and maintained by certificated airman Have access to the new ready-to fly aircraft that can be operated for Comp or hire: specifically Flight Training/Rental Pilots of these aircraft will now have an FAA Pilot Certificate and can carry a passenger and provide flight instruction All of this will provide for better access to: Insurance, financing, airports, and increased acceptance by general aviation community
