(approx 4 single and 4 double or 6 doubles – 8 flying days) ~ 50 EXMIX hours (10 flights) + Cranfield Test Flights Expected no. of flights: 5 flying days/week (some double flights) Weekend working: yes, weather permitting Early/Late flying: yes (Met Office 07:00 – 23:00), weather permitting Night flying: Met Office : NO. DIAMET Flight planning timeline
The Day before the Flight 08:30L DIAMET science planners check weather and discuss possibilities for a DIAMET flight tomorrow onwards 08:45L Detachment Manager departs hotel for Met Office 09:00L (Detachment Manager &) Met Office Mission Scientists check weather and discuss possibilities for flights tomorrow (in Conf 4) 09:30L DIAMET Mission Scientist agrees decision for DIAMET flight the following day and departs for the Met Office 10:00L Flight decision meeting at Met Office for following day (Conf 4) with Detachment Manager, Met O, DIAMET MS, DFL Ops, pilot (if not flying/on rest day) 12:00L AT LATEST - Flight Brief to be with FAAM/Directflight Ops to allow NOTAMS etc to be booked for following days flight. The Day of the Flight T-4:30 Mission Scientist weather check to be able to notify Directflight Ops of changes at T-4:00 T-4:15 Directflight Ops depart hotel for Met Office. T-4:00 Directflight Ops assemble flight and weather info for the crew T-3:45 Aircrew depart hotel for Met Office. Start of aircrew duty. T-3:00 Aircrew report for duty at Met Office Conf 4 - last chance for changes to flight booking T-3:00 Avalon engineers depart hotel to ready aircraft for science pre-flight T-3:00? FAAM core instrument pre-flighter(s) depart hotel for airport T-3:00 ~ T-2:30 DFL Ops 2 depart hotel airport to be ready to escort science crew between terminal and aircraft T-2:30 Core science pre-flight begins. Exeter Airport Access to aircraft Security Pack-up Storage
Fliers to collect boarding pass at FAAM or Directflight Desk then go to security Non flyers will have to be escorted Security - Bags and body scan/search at Departures - Bring DFL pass and passport! - We will use the staff/crew exit to Departures then the aircraft - Keep to marked walking areas. Pack-up Storage - In locked portacabin in hangar - Dangerous Goods in a cage in hangar Refreshments - In the Terminal - In departures after passing through security

Working at Exeter Airport
High Vis jackets must be worn on the ramp. Stay within the aircraft foot print. If other aircraft moving (this means if the beacon is on) either stay on a/c or stay on walk way. Always carry DFL pass and Passport. Conform to normal airport security procedures (ie. no liquids/sharp instrument etc.) Be aware of F.O.D. do not drop rubbish on ramp and if you see any pick it up and put in the F.O.D. bins. Exeter airport are very tight on ramp procedures. If anyone does not observe the above they risk being removed from the apron and refused further access.
