Dr. Laura-Madalina Popescu Laboratory of Nanostructured Materials National Research-Development Institute for Non-Ferrous and Rare Metals, Pantelimon, Ilfov, Romania Expertise in: Hydrothermal synthesis of hybrid organic – inorganic nanostructured materials with controlled composition and architecture: hydroxyapatite-polyurethane, iron oxide – polymers (PAMAM dendrimers, PEI branched polymer) with potential application in tissue engineering or other areas of Regenerative Medicine. Preparation of new high-viscous/ pasty materials for 3D Printing via material extrusion; 3D printing of hybrid organic-inorganic nanostructured materials. Hydrothermal-electrochemical deposition of thin films on various substrates (Au-CNT on Gold-coated Si Wafers; Au-polymer or organic molecules on interdigitated gold electrodes with potential application as biosensors for diagnosis. Fourier transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) of powders, liquids and thin films using ABB MB 3000 spectrometer. Surface zeta potential measurement using surface zeta potential cell kit of Malvern Zetasizer Nano ZS90 (which gives inform about the zeta potential at the surface of a flat material in an aqueous environment) - important for attachment and proliferation of cells on solid materials.

Expected benefits and activities during participation in BIONECA:
Share experience and knowledge with groups involved in synthesis of new biomaterials based on synthetic polymers and inorganic nanoparticles Share experience and compare fabrication techniques of 3D printed scaffolds for tissue engineering constructs (obstacles, advantages and drawbacks) Would like to learn about new characterization techniques of biomaterials and their accumulation in organism Would like to learn about and propose visualization methods which offer information about cell – biomaterial interactions Would like to benefit from modeling to design new organic-inorganic nano-bio-materials with controlled properties for cardiovascular applications and / or brain diseases Would like to cooperate with groups involved in this Action to write joint peer reviewed scientific papers and H2020 project proposals IMNR / Laboratory of Nanostructured Materials is interested to participate in WG1 – Processing of biomaterials.
