January is Community Service month. Find out what YOU can do to help your community!!

4 What can you do to help? Throughout the month of January, the Watertown High School community will be organizing and fulfilling community service projects. The following slides describe available community service opportunities.

5 COIN DRIVE - Bring in your coins to donate toward purchases that will stay in our community. The 5th period class that brings in the most money will do the shopping. Our purchases will include: warm winter clothing socks for seniors dog and cat food food for the Urban Mission, etc. Every penny counts. The coin drive will end on January 24th.

6 SODA/CAN PULL TABS For Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central New York, an organization that supports programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children and families. Families of children in Northern New York whose children are sent to the hospital in Syracuse receive help through this charity. Pull tabs are due by Tuesday, January 24th.

7 SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDERS
Each classroom will be given a scholastic book order to place an order to donate to our new pre-school program. Book orders are due to Mrs. Ciscell ro Mrs. Lake by January 17th.

8 DOG PULL TOYS- Bring in an old t-shirt to turn it into a toy for dogs at the SPCA. Dog pull toys are due by January 24th.

9 MICROWAVEABLE HEATING PADS
Mrs. Lauraine has offered the use of her room on January 9, 11 and 12th during 5th period. Space is limited. Sign up with her and get a 5th period pass. She has fabric available. We are looking for donations of bags of rice and/or essential oils. Donations can be given to Mrs. Lauraine or Mrs. Ciscell. These donations will be collected for Samaritan Hospital and area nursing homes. Heating pads due on January 24th.

10 LETTERS/CARDS We will write letters and/or cards to deployed soldiers.
Write a note to a soldier and turn it in to Mrs. Ciscell or your 5th period teacher to give to Mrs. Ciscell. Letters/cards are due by January 24th.

11 What can you do to help? In addition to the ideas that we are organizing, there are many ways that you can help within your community. You can volunteer for organizations in your community, at your school and/or help individuals that you know. Some ideas include:

12 Shovel a driveway for a neighbor
Collect and/or organize food at a local food pantry Volunteer your talent to a local girl/boy scout troop Make cards/valentines for a senior home Volunteer your time at a local pet shelter Baby sit for a family that you know for free Host/help run a game night for senior citizens Tutor/coach younger kids who need extra help in school/sports
