Adoption Public Adoption Adoptions in Manitoba occur under the legislation of The Adoption Act and The Child and Family Services Act The foster care system is connected with public adoption, it is provincially run. The adoptive parents must meet the child’s mental, emotional, and educational needs The legislation is intended to protect the rights of everyone involved A lawyer is required

3 Private Adoption Facilitated by a licensed adoption agency
One or both birth parents select the adoptive parents for their child or ask the agency to find a family for their child The agency has approved applicants for the parents to choose from Adoptive parents need to pass a home study Birth parents must sign consents to adoption 48 hours after the birth of their child The birth parents may withdraw their consent for 21 days after signing them A lawyer is required

4 International Adoption
To adopt a child from another country, Manitoba residents must apply through a licensed adoption agency or a Child and Family Services Agency Manitoba residents will pay fees to the agency, Citizenship and Immigration Canada and organizations in the child’s country ( $ range 20,000 – 50,000 depending on country) An adoption social worker will supervise the placement for at least six months A lawyer is not required
