Commissioned officers: maximum years of commissioned service or maximum age, whichever comes first, unless removed by other provision of law Maximum years of commissioned service LTCs and below = 28 years LTC(P)s and COLs = 30 years Maximum age Age 60 Secretary of the Army did not elect to adopt age 62 as authorized by law Twice non-selection for promotion First day of seventh month after President approves the board Subject to needs of the Army, approved for selective continuation (SELCON) CPTs to 20 years of commissioned service if selected by SELCON board MAJs to 24 years of commissioned service if selected by SELCON board 1LTs without Baccalaureate degree to completion of original MSO Obligated STRAP 1LTs to completion of original MSO or contractual STRAP obligation CW2 and CW3 until max age (removal suspended) Warrant Officers: Age 60 Enlisted Soldiers Maximum Years of Service – suspended since 2003 CY11 demographics (through 31 Dec 11) Race: Caucasian (32), Black (7), API (0), Hispanic (2), Native American (0), Other (0) Average Age: 28.5 Gender: Male (34) and Female (7) Method: Gun Shot Wound (28), Hanging (8) and Other (5) Marital Status: Single (24), Married (17) Rank: Jr Enl (23), NCO (16), OFF (2) Duty Status: 35 TPU not in a duty status and 6 on active duty Previously Deployed: 25 Senior Review Group: Six line VCSA Questionnaire forwarded by AR G-1 through chain of command to unit regarding suicide to obtain information about individual and circumstances surrounding individual’s life, military service, and death. Death Certificate received by AR G-1 and suicide status changed to ‘confirmed’. Confirmed suicides reported to HQDA. AR G-1 receives VCSA Questionnaire from the chain of command. Creditable and Noncreditable Service
Commissioned service is defined as "Service as a commissioned officer that includes active status and active service as provided for in section 14706" of Title 10 The only exception to this rule is based in Title 10 Section 14706(a)(3), which excludes time a commissioned officer spends while in an advanced education program for appointment in a special branch. Section14706(b) goes on to explain that the officer's Reserve commissioned service prior to entering the advanced education program to become qualified in a special branch does count toward years of commissioned service for MRD purposes Commissioned service in the following categories is creditable towards an officer’s MRD Selected Reserve: Troop Program Unit (TPU), Active Guard Reserve (AGR), USAR Control Group (Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) USAR Control Groups: Individual Ready Reserve (IRR), Annual Training (AT), Officer Active Duty Obligor and (OADO) Standby Reserve - Active Status List Army or Air National Guard Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Air Force Reserve Active Component service with the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard Commissioned service in the following categories is not creditable towards an officer’s MRD Standby Reserve - Inactive Status List Retired Reserve Inactive Army National Guard US Army Retired List, Permanent and Temporary Disability Retired List, and Army of the United States (AUS) Retired List Retiree Recall – retired officers who are ordered to active duty from the Retired Reserve or the retired list under Section’s 688(a), 12301(a), or 12301(d) and serves in his or her retired status A Soldier transferred from the Retired Reserve back to the Ready Reserve under provisions of Section is not a recalled retiree and their service would be counted towards their commissioned service CY11 demographics (through 31 Dec 11) Race: Caucasian (32), Black (7), API (0), Hispanic (2), Native American (0), Other (0) Average Age: 28.5 Gender: Male (34) and Female (7) Method: Gun Shot Wound (28), Hanging (8) and Other (5) Marital Status: Single (24), Married (17) Rank: Jr Enl (23), NCO (16), OFF (2) Duty Status: 35 TPU not in a duty status and 6 on active duty Previously Deployed: 25 Senior Review Group: Six line VCSA Questionnaire forwarded by AR G-1 through chain of command to unit regarding suicide to obtain information about individual and circumstances surrounding individual’s life, military service, and death. APL officers and AMEDD MS 67/70 Max years of service: 18-20 year lock-in (Reserve Sanctuary) not to exceed age 62; approval authority rests with OFTS Command (RPSC issues memo) Voluntary SELCON for alerted/mobilized LTCs and COLs for period of mobilization plus 90 days not to exceed 33/35 years commissioned or age 60; approval authority rests with AR G-1 OFTS Commands return all others without action Max age: Approval authority rests with ASA(M&RA) Medical: Approval authority rests with HRC/ASA(M&RA) MEB/PEB process: Approval authority rests with ASA(M&RA) AMEDD, other than MS 67/70 2-year increments up to age 68 Approval authority rests with HRC on behalf of Sec Army JAG and Chaplains Approval authority rests with TJAG and Chief, Chaplains, respectively Warrant Officer Up to age 62 and 60 days Approval authority rests with AR G-1 for warrant officers who has or can complete 20 qualifying years of service for retired pay. Policy: ASA(M&RA) memo dated 11 Oct 05 Applies to LTCs & COLs assigned to a unit or DUIC who are alerted for or ordered to AD in support of GWOT. CAR and Chief, NGB are approval authorities.

Regulation: AR , Para 7-3 Military Technician Same as APL Commissioned Service NDAA 06 May serve further extensions granted by ASA(M&RA) until qualified for an unreduced annuity or age 62 (whichever comes first).
