4 Over 15 Billion Items Connected to Date with RAIN RFID
10/22/2017 Over 15 Billion Items Connected to Date with RAIN RFID At Impinj we are about BRINGING IOT TO ANYTHING using RAIN RFID. So what exactly is RAIN RFID? You may have heard of RFID - there are a few different kinds. HF, LF, NFC. RAIN is... RAIN RFID is a passive UHF RFID based wireless technology standard that has connected over 15 billion items to the internet over the years. Note that these are everyday objects, we are not talking about powered devices – which are often the examples used when talking about concepts like the Internet of Things. However, what RAIN RFID is enabling today is expanding the reality of the Internet of Things to everyday objects in our physical world, enabling businesses and consumers to identify, locate, and authenticate each of these items – from clothing to medications to equipment to people. From a terminology perspective, RAIN RFID is to passive RFID what Wifi and Bluetooth are to and wireless communication technologies, and just like WiFi and Bluetooth are a simple, more user friendly way of referring to a set of wireless communication standards unique to passive RFID. 4 Copyright 2014 Impinj

5 About RAIN RFID Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a form of wireless communication that uses radio waves to identify and track objects Endpoints Reader Software Tag Chip RFID Tag Tagged Item Gateways (Reader) ItemSense Software Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) is the use of radio waves to read and capture information stored on a tag attached to an object. A tag can be read from up to several feet away and does not need to be within direct line-of-sight of the reader to be tracked. An RFID system has readers and tags that communicate with each other by radio. RFID tags are so small and require so little power that they don’t even need a battery to store information and exchange data with readers. This makes it easy and cheap to apply tags to all kinds of things that people would like to identify or track. Over the past several years, the industry has removed technological obstacles, met interoperability requirements and worked on global standardization. It has strengthened educational and promotional efforts around UHF RFID, with EPC Gen2 being a prime example of global standardization. RAIN RFID uses a single, global standard: UHF Gen 2 (ISO/IEC ) and is a passive RFID system in which a reader sends a radio signal to a tag. The tag then uses the transmitted signal to power on, and reflect energy back to the reader. Tag Chip Gateways/Readers RAIN RFID SYSTEM

6 10/22/2017 Retailers, Hospitals, Marathons, Airports, and More Depend on RAIN RFID RAIN RFID isn’t new - the adoption of RAIN RFID is broad and deep – spreading across many industries, around the globe as represented by the images on this slide and continues to grow at a strong pace. While the industry with the highest rate of adoption today tends to be retail, the examples of how this technology is changing the game outside of retail are numerous, ranging from retailers, healthcare organizations, airports, food and beverage, sports etc. Note that while the images span multiple industries, I am not trying to say that healthcare is like any of these industries, because as we all know it’s unique, with it’s unique challenges and unique needs, but I want to leave you with the message that this technology has matured and scaled to a point where the adoption has ramped up in a dramatic way and will continue to do so. In other words, the key takeaway here is that RAIN RFID is an enterprise-class technology that is being actively deployed by large, complex organizations around the world today as an integral part of how those organizations operate. In healthcare, we are seeing a growing level of interest in this set of capabilities as healthcare organizations look for ways they can gain more visibility and control over their operations, through the use of this technology, in a world where they continue to come under increasing pressure to control their costs, while delivering high quality patient care. 7 RAIN Industry Growth Founding members of the RAIN Alliance:
Growing Adoption 14.2 bn 2.9 bn 2012 2018 Source: Chainlink Research 2015 UHF Market Report The last point on RAIN RFID that I will leave you with, before we jump into customer success stories with RAIN RFID technology in healthcare, is the sponsorship and advocacy this technology has received from leading technology companies. The RAIN Alliance was established in 2014 by Google, Intel, Impinj, Smartrac – as a means of building a critical mass of adoption around this technology standard around the world. And in two years the alliance now counts over 100 organizations as members, companies of all shapes and sizes, capabilities, geographies learning about this technology and incorporating it into their products. And as you can see from the chart on the right, the annual volume of rain rfid tags also continues to grow at a very healthy pace. 8 Transforming Healthcare
Streamline Operations Enhance Patient Experience Improve Quality 10/22/2017 Transforming Healthcare Deliver Better Patient Care, More Effectively, With Better Outcomes Let’s transition now to healthcare and where RAIN RFID is having a meaningful impact. We all know the pressures healthcare organizations are under to deliver high quality care, - and it’s related drivers of clinical quality, patient experience, and cost containment. And hospitals are increasingly accountable to do all of this with the same or fewer resources as in the past, given the pressures on reimbursements, and ongoing government mandates as well as the trend of consumers having an ever increasing level of choice about how and where they get their care. Our vision at Impinj with RAIN RFID technology, is to enable a wide range of IoT solutions that help healthcare organizations meet these challenges head on, and deliver solutions with measurable ROI that can help healthcare organizations increase their operational efficiency, improve quality and enhance the patient experience. 10 Why use automation to track supplies?
10/22/2017 Why use automation to track supplies? Reduce or eliminate: Accidental loss/shrinkage Manual inventory process Excess inventory Waste from expirations Key benefits: Traceability UDI/regulatory compliance Easy to scale Accurate data WENDY Supply chain teams are responsible for making sure the right piece of equipment is in the right place at the right time, ready to go. And with the least amount of overhead possible. In many healthcare facilities today, fulfilling on this promise means manual processes and over-spending. It may mean that a patient can’t get the device or implant they need in a timely fashion – or that you’re paying rush charges to have a rep hand-carry an item in for a procedure. How big is the problem? According to the Global Health Exchange (GHX), more than 600 medical device recalls are issued each year, and up to 10 percent of products will likely expire on the shelf. Healthcare organizations lose $5 billion annually due to waste in the implantable device supply chain. TURN TO LANA Copyright 2015 Impinj
