Established 17 th Century Introduced to Nouvelle- France by settlers of Swiss and Normand origin. Purpose was to warm syrups during Lhiver Carried to provinces of Canada after 1763.

Quick Facts about a Canadian Sugar Shack Extraction takes place from late October to early April. Common activities offered:randonnée, équitation, à jouer de la musique, and danser. There are at least 140 known sugar shacks in Canada.

Fun Facts - When temperatures reach below zero degrees Celsius it becomes nearly impossible to extract the syrup. - Le printemps is known as the starting season of extraction and brings the happiness of le Pâques. - Many shacks make their own homeade food to sell to eager customers.
