With the vision of Every Child Succeeds, DPS has committed to five specific goals designed to close academic achievement gaps and prepare all students for success in college and careers. Support for the Whole Child
In Denver Public Schools, we are committed to equitable and inclusive environments where: Every Child Succeeds Students are Challenged academically and prepared for success for college and career Students are Engaged in learning and connected to community Students are Supported by qualified, caring adults Students are in environments that are physically and emotionally Safe Students learn about and practice a Healthy lifestyle Students are Socially and Emotionally Intelligent Note: In Denver Public Schools, we know that kids can’t do their best in school if they come to school hungry, don’t have a winter coat, are afraid of being bullied or have other social and emotional challenges. We believe we must focus on more than academics to ensure our kids can truly succeed. And that means we must work to ensure students are challenged, engaged, supported, safe, healthy, and social and emotionally intelligent. This is what we mean when we talk about supporting the Whole Child.

What do we mean by “Supporting the Whole Child”?

Table Discussion Which of the Whole Child priorities do you feel are most critical for your child? Which of the Whole Child priorities do you feel most supported by your school? How can DPS support your child in achieving in realizing their Whole Child dreams? Notes: We want to kick it off with a small group conversation and then brief share out Please introduce yourself at your table and then answer these questions Then place a green dots on Whole Child Support you feel most supported and place a red dot on where you need support Feel free to grab a sticky and write down additional needs you have and put them on the wall next to it We will have 10 minutes for this, so please make sure everyone gets a turn!
