4 TSI – Texas Success Initiative
What is TSI? Testing requirements set by the state to indicate college readiness Why is TSI so important? Meeting TSI prevents you from having to take developmental/remedial classes in college Saves you $$$ How can students meet TSI before graduation? TSI can be met through SAT or ACT scores TSI can be met through ACC via a free test provided in the Spring semester How can students find out if they meet TSI? Seniors were given a form with their test scores through their English classes last week

6 October 19th – Senior Summit Day
Various activities for students to participate in: Application & Essay Assistance – Opportunity for students to complete their college applications, fill out scholarships, complete resume, etc. FAFSA (Financial Aid) & FSA ID Presentation Financial Aid representatives will be on had to assist students with their FSA ID (electronic signature) in preparation for the October opening of the FAFSA. Scholarships Counselors will be presenting information on the various scholarship opportunities available to seniors COOL Week Initial orientation for students who initially applied and are among the top 80 respondents Military Recruiters Opportunity for students to visit with military recruiters who are interested in enlisting in the military Options Other Than College Student will be able to visit with representatives from non-traditional post secondary agencies the various programs available to students who do not want to attend 4-year school. TSI Prep for Spring Testing – Pre-Assessment Activity will be available for any senior who would like to take the opportunity to complete TSI testing early or wait until spring College Visit – take an official college visit day at the university of your choice great way to use this day to visit your potential university!

7 College Visits On Campus at LHS – At the University –
Students must register to attend via Naviance Passes to attend are sent to the student the morning of the presentation At the University – Students/Parents can set these up from the university web-site Student MUST bring proof of attendance/campus visit back to LHS the next day for an excused absence (up to 2 excused abscences their Senior year).

8 Applications Application Help – Tuesdays & Thursdays throughout Sept & Oct Application Help available during Pride Time Register to attend in Naviance Appetizers & Applications – Thursday, Sept 22, 5:30-7:30pm in LHS Library College Reps available to meet and assist students with their college applications, essays, and answer any questions about the application process Application Steps Apply Texas or Common Application (We suggest you apply to 4 or more schools!) Test Scores (SAT, ACT, TSI) Application Fee or Fee Waiver 6th semester transcript (end of Junior Year) Letters of Recommendation & Resume (if needed – at least 2 weeks turn-around time on recommendations) Watch for deadlines! Transcripts Parchment – on-line system Must choose a university Must make payment on-line

FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) – Opens on October 1 of Senior Year; FREE FAFSA Assistance will be available at LHS on Nov. 3 (2-6pm), Nov. 10 (2-6pm), Feb. 23 (2-6pm) & March 23 (2-6pm)

10 Cool week – career opportunities on location
What is COOL Week? This is an “internship” opportunity A time to “try on” a career prior to going to college How can students participate? Complete Application – available Sept 6 – Sept 16 Commit to participating Complete Orientation on October 19th (Senior Summit Day) What are the requirements? Must be a senior Complete the application Stay eligible Have parent permission How can I, as a parent, help? Have a connection to a great location/placement Complete the form and drop off or Mrs. Wood
