Chapter 1 Marley’s Ghost

Marley, was dead. There was no doubt
Marley, was dead. There was no doubt. He was Scrooge’s business partner and his only friend.

Scrooge was a greedy man, cold inside and out
Scrooge was a greedy man, cold inside and out. No one ever stopped him to stay hello. He wasn’t even happy on Christmas.

On Christmas Eve, Scrooge’s business was still open
On Christmas Eve, Scrooge’s business was still open. His nephew wished him a Merry Christmas. He answered, “Bah! Humbug!” Bah! Humbug!

Scrooge didn’t know why anyone would be happy. His nephew was poor
Scrooge didn’t know why anyone would be happy. His nephew was poor! The boy argued that he could be happy though. Scrooge answered again, “Bah! Humbug!”

Scrooge’s Clerk was sitting cold in the corner
Scrooge’s Clerk was sitting cold in the corner. He asked for Christmas day off. Scrooge said yes, but to start work very early the next day.

Scrooge went home that night
Scrooge went home that night. When he put his key in his door knocker, he was startled to find it looked like Marley’s face. As he stared, it looked like a knocker again.

Scrooge went into his house and sat down
Scrooge went into his house and sat down. Suddenly, he heard a loud clanking. It was coming up the stairs! He called “humbug!” again and then…Marley’s ghost stood before him! He was wrapped in large chains.

Scrooge could not believe it. He asked the ghost what the chains meant
Scrooge could not believe it. He asked the ghost what the chains meant. Marley explained that each link was made in his life, created with each bad deed. Scrooge would wear a similar chain after his own death.

When Scrooge awoke, he saw his curtains pulled to the side by a ghostly hand. It was the first spirit Marley told him would come. It said, “I am the Ghost of Christmas Past.”

The ghost told Scrooge he would have to look in on his past and pulled him towards the window. They went through it and looked on a street from Scrooge’s childhood.

Scrooge could see a younger version of himself
Scrooge could see a younger version of himself. His sister called for him, telling him to come home. The spirit commented that she had died early but after having a son. Scrooge thought of the nephew he had ignored the day before. The spirit took Scrooge to another place.

The place was where he had worked in his youth with a man named Fezziwig. Scrooge then saw himself again, this time as a young man. He was happy back then. A dance started then, hosted by Fezziwig and his wife.

Once the dance broke up, Scrooge remembered the ghost
Once the dance broke up, Scrooge remembered the ghost. He explained how happy he was to work for Fezziwig back then and that he wished he could speak to his clerk. He was feeling bad about how he had treated the man.

Next, the ghost took him to another scene
Next, the ghost took him to another scene. Scrooge saw himself as an older man. He sat with a young woman. She spoke of leaving him because he was no longer the same man. He was not poor anymore, as she was. She left and Scrooge asked the ghost not to show him anymore.

The spirit ignored him. Scrooge looked in on the same girl years later with a family of her own. The girl’s husband said that he had seen Scrooge alone with the dying Marley. Scrooge begged the spirit to leave and eventually fell into a deep sleep.

Scrooge woke up again nervous about the next spirit
Scrooge woke up again nervous about the next spirit. Nothing came this time, so he went to find the ghost. He found a jolly Giant who said, “I am the Ghost of Christmas Present!”

The spirit first took him to his Clerk’s house
The spirit first took him to his Clerk’s house. His name was Bob Cratchit. Scrooge saw the man’s family, all in shabby clothing but still happy. Then Bob came in carrying his youngest son who had a disability and was sick. Tiny Tim held his crutch.

The family was excited and getting ready for dinner
The family was excited and getting ready for dinner. They set a goose on the table with many side dishes, said grace, and prepared to eat together. After dinner, the family toasted with a drink. Tiny Time said, “God bless us every one!” His father held him close and Scrooge feared for the boy’s health.

When Scrooge asked the spirit if Tiny Tim would live, it was predicted that the boy would die. The family did not have the money to care for him and Scrooge was ashamed. He was then surprised to hear his own name. Bob had thanked him for the food they had. Tiny Tim

The ghost then took Scrooge to his nephew’s home
The ghost then took Scrooge to his nephew’s home. The young man and his family were laughing. They could not understand Scrooge’s opinion of Christmas. Scrooge was amazed to hear that his nephew pitied him, sad that the older man was alone. They even drank to his health.

The spirit told Scrooge that his time was nearly up
The spirit told Scrooge that his time was nearly up. He also warned the old man to beware of ignorance and want, that ignorance would be his doom. The spirit left him then. BEWARE! IGNORANCE! WANT!

Chapter Four The Last of the Spirits

The last spirit approached Scrooge through the mist, draped and hooded
The last spirit approached Scrooge through the mist, draped and hooded. Scrooge fell to his knees in fear. The phantom seemed surrounded by gloom and mystery. Scrooge knew then that he was facing The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. This ghost would show him what would happen in the future.

The spirit did not answer, only pointed down
The spirit did not answer, only pointed down. Scrooge was very afraid but told the figure that he wanted to change from the cruel and cold old man he was before. The spirit did not answer, but pointed straight ahead.

The phantom moved forward and Scrooge followed on his shadow
The phantom moved forward and Scrooge followed on his shadow. On the street Scrooge heard a group of men talking. The men spoke of a man’s death, saying that they thought he would never die and that his funeral would likely be cheap and lonely. They thought no one would go. Scrooge didn’t know who they were talking about.

The ghost then led Scrooge to his business
The ghost then led Scrooge to his business. There, he saw another man in his place at the counter. He guessed he had given up his job. Then he was led to the bad part of town. They went into a building where people were talking about collecting the possessions of a dead man. Scrooge was horrified.

Scrooge understood that his future would likely be like this man’s if he did not change. The ghost brought him to the man’s room where his dead body lay on the bed, his face covered. The ghost pointed at the dead man’s head, but Scrooge begged to leave. The ghost continued pointing.

The spirit then took Scrooge to his clerk’s house
The spirit then took Scrooge to his clerk’s house. There Cratchit family was very sad and Scrooge discovered that Tiny Tim had died. He knew his time with the spirit was ending. He asked who the man under the sheet had been and he wanted to know where his own future self was. ? Tiny Tim

The spirit pointed. He took Scrooge to a graveyard
The spirit pointed. He took Scrooge to a graveyard. Scrooge asked if this future was able to be changed. The Spirit ignored him and pointed at a grave.

Scrooge looked and saw his own name on the stone: EBENEZER SCROOGE
Scrooge looked and saw his own name on the stone: EBENEZER SCROOGE. Scrooge fell on his knees and asked if he was the dead man on the bed. EBENEZER SCROOGE

He grabbed the Spirits robe. “I am not the same man I was
He grabbed the Spirits robe. “I am not the same man I was! Is there no hope? Tell me I can still change my future! I will honor Christmas and keep the joy of it all year!” The spirit trembled and vanished.

Chapter Five The End of It

Scrooge was suddenly back in his bedroom
Scrooge was suddenly back in his bedroom. He was very happy and thanked Jacob Marley! He knew he could still change the future he had seen.

Scrooge was so happy he started dancing. “Merry Christmas to everybody
Scrooge was so happy he started dancing! “Merry Christmas to everybody!” he shouted. He laughed. Merry Christmas!

He went to the window and shouted down, “What’s today
He went to the window and shouted down, “What’s today?” A boy answered that it was Christmas Day! He asked the boy to go buy the largest turkey at the store so he could send it to the Cratchit’s house.

He dressed in his best clothes and shaved
He dressed in his best clothes and shaved. When he went outside, he smiled and wished everyone he met a Merry Christmas! He went to his nephew’s house.

He sat down to dinner with his nephew and his family who welcomed him.

The next morning he met Bob Cratchit at work
The next morning he met Bob Cratchit at work. The man was late, but Scrooge said “Hello!” and gave the man more money to take care of his family. He wished the man a Merry Christmas.

He became good friends with the Cratchit family and Tiny Tim did not die. They were all happy and like family.

Scrooge lived on with the happiness of Christmas and Tiny Tim said, “God Bless Us, Every One!”
